Saved on Virgin Media install fees - thanks to MSE

Just wanted to say a big thank-you to all MSE members on this thread.
To cut a long story short I'm sacking off Sky - we started on a half price deal and after it ended the price stuck in my throat a bit at nearly £30 for the basic entertainment pack +HD.
We were going to get a Youview or Freesat Freetime box but the upfront cost put me off, also knowing my luck it would pack in just after the warranty finished yielding another high upfront cost.
My phone and internet are with Virgin as we live in a cabled area and ADSL broadband through the phone line would be 1-2mbps max (50mbps on Virgin - all I need).
I looked at Virgin and saw the starter TV pack would be about £5 per month more than my Phone+BB bill and called to see if I could take it out. Monthly the package was good but the £49.95 install put me off, that fee plus 12x£5 per month = a Youview/Freesat box within 1 year give or take.
I tried to negotiate out of the install fee with the Virgin sales callcentre but no luck. The callcentre were quite rude in places - even though I said the starter package was free install for new customers they told me it wasn't (Annoyed me no end as I was looking at the damn website that said free install) Also they insinuated that as I'd called a few times for pricing advise I was going to buy it anyway so why drop the price....
So today I called their retentions line and said that I was in contract so couldn't leave and didn't want to, but I felt the other callcentre weren't good ambassadors for the Virgin Media brand etc and that why should new customers get free install but not loyal existing ones.
The lady there couldn't have been more helpful, polite and receptive. She agreed to waive the install fee and offered me a great deal on the essential collection TV package for the whole contract, not just a few months.
End result I've got a free 500GB Tivo box, free install and with the monthly increase over just phone and BB it would take over 2 years to buy a premium Youview/Freesat box that knowing my luck would only last a few years anyway, also I get more channels than on a FTA service.
Officially happy camper thanks again to MSE or I'd probably just have given in at the first hurdle
