:rotfl:The wording may be rather un pc but the sentiment seems fair enough to me.

Similar thread is running here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4850490

Not sure if they can / should be merged?

Why are they scummy? Laughably incompetent, perhaps.

What about the other three (or is it four) energy suppliers that have already been found guilty of the same misconducts? Have you avoided purchasing their products, too?

Vodafone, Starbucks and Amazon are still in business re tax avoidance - and there is little personal consequence to anyone not shopping with them - but they are still in business.

Scummy sounds about right to me for npower; as in deliberately underhanded.

"Laughably incompetent " is an adequate description of Ofgem, however. In my opinion, of course.

Had a boiler installed by them 5 years ago. Only took them the best part of 3 years to finally sort it out - unable to find a leak. Their contracts manager told me it was the worst install he has ever seen.

Speaking to their customer service team (or not being able to), no response to emails, engineers not turning up for the fifth time in a row & not being told as well.
Yes I do think I'm entitled to call Npower scummy - I would use other words but the MSE censor blocker would go in to overdrive.
My sister in law also had big problems with them changing a pre-payment meter yo a normal meter.

they are "scummy" to use a polite term
a few years ago, my now wife had lost her mum the previous day when a npower rep knocked on our door, she explained briefly about her mum and to politely go away, he asked her just to quickly sign a form to "take our address off the list"
2 weeks later she received a letter off british gas saying they're sorry she's leaving!
I would sooner pedal a bike with a dynamo attached 24/7 than use those (insert your own most offensive term)

They are actually both whereas Ofgem are just laughably incompetent. You clearly don't know about (or are choosing to ignore) npower's recent history in regard to paying out for misdemeanors. Gas sculpting scandal ring a bell? ;) Ofgem secured a £1.2 million compo payout whereas Consumer Focus managed a £70 million payout for the same misdemeanor. Tells you everything you need to know about this industry...
  • I for one am getting sick of this. Ofgem is at best inept and at worse comes across as pally with the suppliers.

I do find myself what precisely a supplier would need to do get ofgem to do anything significant.

As others have alluded to npower have been done for the gas sculping debacle, plus there is the small matter of their billing system meltdown. They also got fined for mishandling complaints.

So there are few areas of the business which havent been on the (woefully soft) regulators radar.

    Wait i forgot silent calls.

For what its worth the issue highlighted in the article has been tackled.

It is a bit over the top but the sales script now takes ages. You tell the customer what you are using to base it on and ask them if they agree about six times.

Trouble is they should have known it was happening. There were far too many calls where the salesperson had blatantly lied then rode off into the sunset with their pockets stuffed with money.

It is the same as in banks though managers magically dont notice things when thier own bonus is based on their staff meeting sales targets.
