Not where I live! So ,for me the AA are talking cobblers. It's been static "locally" for over a month now since falling a bit previously.
  • Remember when petrol and diesel hit 70p a litre? Refinery gates were blockaded, go slow protests on motorways, tanker drivers went on strike...

Price is near doubled and all we do now is complain about it and do nothing. Maybe its time to get back to more militant ways rather than let faceless corps and government continue to bleed us dry at will.

Do we really need a new MSE "official" thread every time there's an increase, or decrease in petrol prices?

That's an interesting trend. An ultra progressive political party realises the will of the people is cheap fuel, low cost food, and fashionable trainers. They get into power by promising to get them for us, then proceed to create an army with a coallition of the most powerful nations to conquer and occupy the lesser nations. The resources are now "freely" available for the victor nations to exploit, and the people are enslaved in clothes/trainer factories making goods for the new Romans.

And yet, what can anyone do about it?

Because, you know, all those blockades and petitions really worked.

I think in inflationary terms petrol prices are pretty static. It's been around 1.32 for quite some time, I reember it went up to 1.40 per litre for petrol a while back last year.

I think the 70p period you're talking about was probably around £1.40 in todays money.

I'm not an old a dog as you, but I remember when prices broke £1, and it was a huge milestone and a big deal at the time. But then again £1 was worth more then. These days chocolate bar at the corner shop costs 65p. A 500ml bottle of coke costs £1.10.

Thinking about it, coke costs more by volume than petrol!

The prices at my local garages edged up by a penny or two a few days after the last 2p drop.........working their way back up so the petrol stations can give us that huge relief of a 2p drop !!!
Which of course will be reported as a huge thanks from everyone to the motorists.

So does bottled water at times.

In actual terms since the 1980s petrol costs are were fairly static taking into account inflation, but have seen a large jump since 2008, although it has stabilised at this level now.
