Mobility cars are abused I have to admit. Of the ones that I know of on my estate alone, most are used by the rest of the family as their own personal vehicle. One I know is because his grandad has DLA he gets a new car every 3 years. The car is very rarely seen at the house next door - it is used by his grandson but he does compensate his grandad and gives him £50 a week for the use of it.

I'm going to try and get one, as my own is costing me a fortune to keep on the road.

There is nothing stopping you from reporting the abuse.

i dont think it is, but when youve got people driving around in new cars that are meant to be used by someone else, it gets peoples backs up.my neighbour works full time and can only afford to run an 02 plate car,

I tell you what you can have my wife's car,but you have to take her disability as well.

I get HRM but we won't get a mobility car because my husband uses the car more for his uses than mine i.e. he is in a band and goes to practises, gigs etc so he would be abusing the scheme if he did this with a mobility car.

That's fair enough but you do get the money benefit? so you are not losing out on anything? many people prefer the extra money as some can't drive, some would rather an old car as paying over fifty a week for a car they never own outright doesn't make economic sense to some

If your wife's car is used for her needs, then there is no problem.

If you read the thread, you will see that people are complaining about cars being used by people who aren't disabled.

Perhaps they are driving the car to go pick up medications or groceries or something the disabled person needs. I make loads of trips without my disabled son in the car doing things that are specifically for his benefit, so I imagine those using a motability car are no different.

Perhaps they have the car because they live close and regularly check on the disabled person and take them to appointments or other things.

You can't know everything there is to know about someone else's life, so most people are simply not in a position to judge. (not that it stops them, sadly)

You could say the same about company cars, or self employed who write off the costs of running their car against Tax, MPs who have government cars or police and ambulance drivers who go to pick up shopping in police cars ambulances or.....
in the end there will always be petty minded people who hate to see anyone getting something that they dont
if its a major problem to you .. REPORT IT.... otherwise get a life!

I don't get this. Disabled people are allowed to smoke and they may well be incontinent. How is that criminal?
