Booking seats? Should i?

I am due to fly with Monarch on 18/06 to Venice. I have just had a look on their site to check out baggage restictions etc and noticed i could pick my seats. Should i? Do alot of people pre-pick or leave it to chance? It seems daft to pay £5.99 each or £13.99 for the better seats. However we are travelling with children and would hate the idea of not being able to sit with them. Should we chance it?

If you dont prebook then there is no guarantee that you will all be together. The children will not be on their own though, it may be adult+ child in 2 seats and same again elsewhere. Or adult + 2 children + then solo adult etc etc.
It really depends how much you value all sitting together.

We no longer travel with children, however I like my space, so as long as it isnt too exorbitant, I dont mind paying for extra legroom.

Im not fussed about sitting with my husband! It's only short flight so as long as one of us is with the children i'm fine with that. After all there is only 3 seats in a row any way so have never managed to sit together since having more than 1 child.

As has been stated many many times,children will never be seperated from a adult family member.
If 50 people get on the plane before you and every single person sits in a seperate row then there will be 50 sets of 2 seats opposite each other,now whats the likelyhood of 50 single seats being taken up,never in a million flights.Ok so 25 take up single seats and 50 take up 2 seats together,so that leaves 25 double seats still available,so cutting to the chase,you never need to book seats unless you are 50/75 people back in the departure gate queue....and thats up to you to get to the gate in good time......simples

I can see that applies to Ryanair, but don't Monarch allocate seats before boarding?

I never fly with such exhalted airlines such as monarch et al,but even so,this seat booking scam is for the teminaly worried,but if they allocate,then,why would they seperate a family of 4 over 4 different rows

Not a Monarch user from more than a decade myself, they
probably wouldn't but I guess they could split them up in some way. I've never booked seats to sit together with anyone even Mrs Bob the Saver but we always have, unless she's in a strop.

If you want the legroom, check the plane design with Seatguru (I think - Google it) and if the price is right, pay.

If sitting together is the be all and end all, pay. If one of the adults being sat away from the main group doesn't matter, save your money.

Thank you for all replies. I've decided to risk it, worse case scenario i end up sitting way from MR MSE12 and only have 1 or 2 children with me.... Did i say worst case scenario?
With a bit of luck other people have seen sense and only pre-booked seats with extra leg room which is the only time i would justify the extra cost.
