Cats having teeth removed.

Our poor 12 year old Tinker had to have her 4 'fangs' removed because they were broken etc. and a 4 root molar at the back on Wednesday.
She is lively enough and doesn't seem to be in pain but Im sure she must be because as soon as I go anywhere near her face she backs off .
I tried putting her tablets in cats milk, no luck, tried crushing it into food, she is normally ravenous but is just picking at food.
So I have to do it the old fashioned way, head back, chuck it inand stroke her throat.
Is there such a thing as painkillers for cats.

Sorry to hear about your poor Tinker's dental problem

When my dear old girl had pain problems we took her to the vets and they gave her pain relief injections, I'm not sure of another form of pain relief. Have you tried crushing the tablet into soft cheese or jam? That used to work for my sweet old cat. Hope she's feeling better soon

Thanks for your input. The tablets she is on are antibiotics so no pain relief at all.
It looks as if the only pai she has is while she is trying to eat. She is normally wowling for food 24./7 lol., but just picks at a bit at a time.
She can eat little bits of cheese too, Im not sure that its good for her but I suppose anything is better than nothing lol
I bet youre like me, lol, you would rather have th epain yourself eh. At least we could go and get a paracetamolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Yeah it would be good to take the pain away from them if we could. Hopefully your kitty's pain will go away soon, she's probably just a bit tender.I SUPPORT CAT RESCUE! Visit Cat Chat to support cat rescue too.

One of my elderly cats had all her teeth removed and she was back eating normally within 24hrs.. if she continues appearing tender I'd take her back for another check just to make sure they didn't leave a broken tooth behind.. I'm almost sure they gave her intravenous anti-biotics afterwards.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

If you think she is in pain, give your vet a call. There are pain killers available for cats so they should be able to help her.

I know you can get liquid painkiller for cats, Pixie had some alongside tablet antibiotics when she tore her belly open. I was told to either mix it with food or syringe it straight down her throat, luckily for me she wasn't off her food so she took it that way.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. Our cats both had several teeth removed due to decay. The vet prescribed Metacam for them (possibly off-label use?). It was a liquid which we added to their food. Unfortunately, one of our cats had a bad reaction to it, vomited a lot and went completely off his food, so I would have slight reservations about using it. Didn't do the other girl any harm, though.0

If mine is on tablets I put them in a small blob of dairylea or something similar and she munches them then. Previously she'd managed it in things like tuna as I think if it's a stronger smelling food they don't notice as much.
Also she had quite a few teeth out last year and was back on her food almost the next day. I think it was actually a big relief for her as she'd been off it for a bit beforehand so obviously it was bothering her to eat with the bad teeth. She also didn't seem to be in any obvious pain and was happy to be fussed and chin scratched etc.
Is yours due to go back for a check up soon? If not I would maybe consider it just to make sure it's all healed up ok.0 -
How can cat express pain? God bless little one.0

One of our cats had several extractions over his life with us (gingivitis). The vet always prescribed metacam as pain relief alongside the antibugs.0
