At least that headline is somewhat more helpful than LBC 97.3 radio in London, whose work experience trainees thought that it meant price reductions.

Unfortunately the story reveals someone regurgitating a press release without understand it: "Under the current deal, airlines have to pay charges of RPI plus 7.5%."

How do you pay a charge of RPI?

Will Ryanair and easyJet move some flights to less well known airports to avoid some of these increases ? In a similar way that easyJet moved some aircraft to SEN from STN.

Time to tackle the cashcow that is APD. UK plc might want all these rich tourists coming to the UK to spend their money, but with expensive visas and UK APD (which they pay on their return sector), other destinations look better value.

A wealthy Chinese friend of mind is married with 2 kids. She had a conference in London and thought she'd have a family holiday at the same time. The cost of 4 UK visas and enormous tax on 4 business class tickets, Paris worked out alot cheaper - and getting a schengen visa was alot easier too in the case of hubby. So they went to Paris for a week. She Eurostarred it to the conference and overnighted one day in London.

YEP, she's wealthy and can afford our taxes. But she doesn't have to and chooses not to.
