The Great 'Single MoneySaving' Hunt Revisited

  • Being in a unhappy relationship is a far lonelier place than being single by a country mile, I'm interested in these holidays for singles have not tried them yet. I went on a coach holiday in Europe once it was all couples on the coach with me being the odd one out, awkward! which wasn't a good experience wouldn't do it again as you don't feel comfortable intruding on a couple even if they seem quite nice, so I kept myself too myself.
Might try the cruise on page one but then again it probably would be all couples on the boat deja vu the coach trip!
Another plus being single you don't have to watch rubbish movies the other half loves.

I took the plunge on singles holidays about 4 years ago after avoiding going away for years as I had no-one to go with. I can't imagine going on a 'normal' holiday on my own.

I started on singles holidays by doing a 2 night, then a 3 night in the UK and did a week in Egypt, Morocco and then 2 weeks in Turkey last year. I absolutely love singles holidays and for me, part of the excitement is wondering what my new friends are going to be like.

I had a fantastic New Year at a Medieval Dinner and its much better to be with a group of like minded people than to be out with a load of couples or sat at home on your own.

Solos are good. I tried Friendship Travel for my 2 weeks in Turkey, it was the best holiday I have ever had. Everyone is in the same boat, some might have met before but the vast majority are on their own and want to make friends and enjoy themselves.

    Go on- chance it

I love it when there are 2 for 1 deals on meals out. I usually go at least once a week, more often twice as I scout around for deals. And just in case your thinking I'm nuts for paying for two meals when it's just me, when I've finished my meal and I'm ready to ge home, I ask them to put the other meal in a doggy bag so I can take it home. Free dinner the following night and one up on the restaurant. Ha, Take take smug couples!!

Now my children are young adults I have the urge to go on holiday by myself but why do I have to pay a single supplement if I'm staying in a single room? I would like to go on a cruise but single supplement is around £300 yet the room is only designed for 1 so why should I have to pay extra just to travel on my own? This is so unfair.
I totally get what your saying there mate. I am looking to get away myself. Not a cruize, but anything really. ~Single supplament all the way, with nearly every tour operator. They say they have limted capabilty for people on there oen, but well if they do, it's like 1 out of 100 hotels, and generaly have 1 or 2 rooms at the most. Then if you do find a room for 1, its never half the price or perhaps a little bit more. It generally turns out to be only slightly cheaper than if 2 of you was there. Such a rip off.
I have ideas of getting around this, but as package deals go, I would give them a miss and book things individualy.
Of course, this doesnt give you the security of if a company goes bust. Thou its the only way to say your self some cash, and not pay over the odds, just becasue your single.

The problem with these companys, they know your on your own. If you actually see the prces of what they are quoting a single person, its not really any cheaper as if there where a couple. So personally, it defeats thw whole object of it all.

I just take the car over the channel on the ferry and go where I fancy finding a nice hotel each night as I go. Sometimes I stay a few nights. There are always people to meet.

Or, I get on a plane somewhere and sort out a hotel when I get there.

This year I'm going to drive to Italy for couple weeks.

Like another poster here I am single but have a grown up child at home for whom I am carer now so getting away to doing anything has to be planned so as not to cause added problems.

When I do get away I use daysin as get wifi included and some offer breakfast too and go via cash back sites - find them decent quality and good value.

Not bothered about traveling alone as done it so many times over the years.

The worse part is evening meals for me, few years ago I went to Gibraltar - there was chap dining alone in the bar one evening so I went up to him and said I was not hitting on him but given as we were both dining alone would he like to sit with me as he looked as bored as I did that evening. Turned out his wife had gone the same school as me and we had a smashing evening,

I like to tour round with the camera with out having to worry about another's interests etc so love it. Like others I get annoyed at the single supplement - even 2 airline tickets workout cheaper per person than one at times.

I hate going to pics on my own so if daughter does not want to see any of the free ones I manage to get I wait till they come out online.

But it would be nice to have someone else to share the load, make me a cuppa or even just do the shopping or reach the top shelve.

A friend said to me at a party a few years back wheres your daughter as you always bring her and it really hit home that and the realization that all invites I do get mis out the plus one, I am not looking for a partner as no longer have anything left to give them but it does hurt sometimes and I do feel I am missing out on some things at times.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

I'm interesting in going on a singles holiday - I've had occasions where I've been dragged by friends to places that I've had little interest in, I figure it would be easier and less stressful to go on my own! However for the past few days I've had emails from Groupon for holiday breaks that have interested me, however the deal is based on two people. Grrr!

Personally I don't know any different to being single ( :( ) but I do like being able to do what I want when I want. I don't think I could stand having to cook different things for someone else (I have some friends who are incredibly picky eaters and it makes eating out really difficult), TV doesn't bother me so much.
