This was a foregone conclusion.
Whatever the economy people will always need somewhere to live, and if they can't buy (for whatever reason) then they have no choice but to rent. So the more renters chasing properties the more the rentals will increase. Supply and demand!:money:0 -
Rents are likely to keep rising until the banks start to resume mortgage lending. Would be FTBs are trapped in rental.0

Or the landlords start putting in double bunks and charge per bed,
instead of per room.
On the Trans Siberian railway, a six berth cabin has triple bunks on each side.
Green Tortoise, based in San Francisco, has converted Greyhound buses that has fold down planks so you get three levels that accommodates 30. It's a mobile hostel with two drivers, so you get to the next destination while you sleep.0 -
I'd be more interested in seeing a breakdown of the figures to get a better view of whats going on.
Break down by area and property type/size would be great.
If the majority of rented properties a year ago were 1-2 bed flats, and now they are 3 - 4 bed houses, I would be shocked if the average hadn't gone up....0 -

Fixed that for you. There's effectively no way out, as the solutions are all non-starters due to the mindset of our politicians and lobbying interests.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Wait till you come home and the lock is changed.0 -
alternatively one could note that rents are rising about the same as general inflation (but that probably wouldn't make a great headline)0

And around double the rate of wage inflation.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
