7 Month Old Refusing To Nap/Go To Bed

  • At your LO's age, he might be going through separation anxiety, and have just realised that when he goes in his cot, you go away - so maybe just stay with him taking gently to him and maintain physical contact with him untill he goes to sleep. It might take some time, but stay calm and be patient with him. I think the most important thing is to be consistent, they can smell weakness. Once you decide it's naptime, don't give in until he's fallen asleep even if it takes you 2 hours to get him to go to sleep and he wakes up after 10 min, he's still learnt what to do, and next time he'll hopefully be slightly more cooperative.

He'll learn what to do at naptime again, it'll just be hard for you until he does :o
Think you've hit it on the head there, thinking about it he does seem to be more clingy and cries when I leave the room, even when OH is there. The only time he hasn't is when he's with his grandparents or my brother who he adores.

Will try some of the suggestions, thanks to everyone for them, and hopefully conquer this soon.

  • 45 mins to get him down today, he knackered himself out in the end.

    Well done!!!

Hope he sleeps for long enough for you to get a cuppa! I also hope you live no where near us because a huge thunder and lightning storm has just woke my LO up!!!!!
  • We're dry at the moment. It's not too cold out either but clouds look ominous. Hope he stays down enough for me to do dishes at least. He can play with his toys at cuppa time, seems happy enough with his rings/tigger/my car keys/bank card/play mat as long as I don't leave him alone too much

My 61/2 month old was exactly the same- would NOT sleep at all during the day. He was so miserable and cranky. I tried everything. I couldn't do the cry it out method- I felt so cruel and sat and cried. I spent 2 weeks doing the baby whisperers pick up put down technique and followed her 4 hour routine when he was 4 months and have not looked back since- he now sleeps for 11/2 hours in morning and 2x45 mins over the rest of day- now just to crack the nighttime waking!!!
