I'd just turn all data off and use wi fi only, nothing can run up your phone bill without your knowledge then.0

The obvious thing to do is get a local SIM card from Kyivstar, particularly for data. UAH 1 (8p) buys 50MB for a day. This works out at £1.62/GB, substantially less for example than Orange's rip-off £8000/GB data roaming charge. See http://www.kyivstar.ua/en/mm/mobile_internet/phone/tariffs/0

Orange's roaming charge is £8 per MB which actually works out at £8192 per GB (a GB is 1024MB not 1000MB)
