Red wine has gone up. In my world, that means inflation is still unacceptably high...

Yes, this figures highly in my "typical basket" too (although to be honest I need a trolley or better still a delivery van :D)

Cheaper bread and fresh veg is simply no help at all.

For those who may be interested, the November 2011 indices are:
    RPI: 238.5
    CPI: 121.2

Note to MSE Helen: It really would be helpful if MSE could report the actual index numbers because it is now quite difficult to find them on the new ONS website.

  • Strange that my weekly shop is still increasing in price for mostly basic items? So where are these "price wars"?

Cut out the fresh veg. Red wine is all fruit. Five of those a day should keep the doctor away! :p

Yes, it is really very difficult to find them. I mean who would think that clicking on Consumer Price Indicies - November 2011 on the front page on the ONS website would bring them up? ;)
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place
  • Does anyone really believe these figures. There is a saying "there are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics". The inflation figures obviously fall into the later category.
As for the charade of the governor of the BOI having to write to the chancellor every month to explain why inflation is above the government target of 2%. Does he really not know what is happening and has to be spoon fed information that to the rest of us is patently obvious. The sad thing is HE is in charge of OUR money.
WE ARE BEING RIPPED OFF BY THE BANKS, STOCK MARKET SPECULATORS, THE UTILITY COMPANIES, THE PETROLEUM COMPANIES AND SUPERMARKETS WHO MAINTAIN AN ARTIFICIALLY HIGH FUEL PRICE, THOSE WHO EVADE OUR TAXES, AND EVERY OTHER PERSON/ORGANISATION WHO SEE GB AS NOTHING BUT THE WORLDS CASH COW.
And the government don't appear to know what's happening, or rather prefer to protect their own!

Five a day should be easy ... I tend to 'juice' in the mornings so all done by lunchtime.

Definition of an Alcoholic: Someone who drinks more than their GP.

Does anybody here care about inflation?? It looks like its just winos/weirdos having fun on this thread ... but I wold love it to turn to serious discussion.
