Customers who joined before February will have their line rental prices rounded up to the nearest 50p, to be bought in line with the prices Vodafone's new customers currently pay.

The word pedants’ top 10 | It’s specific, not Pacific | You didn’t ‘literally’ die.

I've just started a brand new 24 month contract with Vodafone - was no mention of any forthcoming price rises. What happens to me?

Assuming that by 'brand new' you mean since June this year, and if you read the article fully, you will see that the price rises are for people that started a contract prior to June (or July). You are already paying the higher prices.

    - The cost of out of bundle calls (when you go over your allowance) to landline numbers (starting 01, 02 or 03), Vodafone mobiles and voicemail will rise to 35p per minute for those who joined before June (those who joined since June already pay that). The current price paid by those customers varies.
    - Pay monthly mobile internet customers who exceed their data allowance will be charged £5 for up to 250MB of usage, double the current £5 for up to 500MB of usage. Data bundles vary from 100MB a month to 1GB.

Thats for the calls the data at the moment is still 5quid for 500mb. I asked as ive been with voda only 2 months.
  • I still can't quite believe how big an increase per minute this change is going to be for users like me who sometimes go over their bundled minutes.
I've just talked to someone from Vodafone and they confirmed that to call a landline from my mobile will increase from 13p per minute to 35p per minute if I go over the 100 minutes that I currently pay for in my price plan. That's almost tripling.
I don't go over every month so have never bothered increasing to a more expensive tariff for more minutes as was always fairly relaxed that if I did go over the limit it wouldn't make much of a difference.

I'm out of contract with Vodafone, so will probably have to move provider or sign up to a different Vodafone package (or be careful not to exceed my 100 minutes each month).

Does anyone know how much other mobile providers charge for out of bundle calls?

Just rang up to double check and confirmed that it is £5 for 500mnb as it is then it will go to £5 for 250 which will affect my monthly bill by more than 10%.

I have 3 contacts in my name for vodafone, 1 upgraded recently and is exactly £30 so no affect to that.

The other 2 Had the VAT increase in jan and now they are upping the prices to the next 50p so both contacts
are now £1 more than they should be.

So only £2 a month more than i signed up for in the 1st place, BUT when i signed up for the contracts it was £20 inc VAT.
Thats the price i was quoted when taking out the contract not £17 + vat or whatever.

Who decided the 10% figure before you can cancel the contract? If this a Vodafone idea or a legal one?

Also the price plan previously had risen slightly because of the 20% rise but i changed to the same plan and its now cheaper
ie. at the pre VAT increase price? Wonder if they noticed that?

I never go over my allowance though. So maybe worse deal for others.

It is a Vodafone idea materialised in their T&C. I am pretty sure there is no anything illegal in this.

Snakeeyes21 is sat here wondering why the moneysavingexpert team didnt do such an article when
3mobile made a huge change in their terms to start charging for sms delivery reports,
and also a huge breach of contract by not informing their customers of the change, then
to top it off not allowing cutomers to cancel their contracts without penalty.

But im sure the MSE team will jump on the 'cancel yout 3 contract' bandwagon once myself and a
few others have done all the legwork getting the matter infront of OFCOM and the ombudsman,
which has gone surprisingly well, dispite it taking a couple of months to get to this point.

I lift my hat to the MSE team, their ability to defend some customers of some networks in
preferance to giving a helping hand to customers of other networks who have had to fight tooth
and nail to be heard, is quite remarkable.
