So much for the Big Society and "we're all in this together".
I guess they need to make cuts like this if they are to scrap the 50% tax bracket for their high-earning cronies.0 -
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Jimmy I don't think the 50% income bracket is going to make any impact on this or any incmoe the government makes in tax - except possibly in a good way. 50% is a darned good incentive for most people earning over £150k to find a way of technically earning it outside the UK and not falling foul of that income tax... getting rid of it will hopefully make it less appealing meaning that the UK gov gets more high earners back to the UK and ofcourse it's not just the 50% on over £150k they get... it's all the lovely tax on the first £150k too... get enough of those back in the UK and it all adds up!!!
As for CAB funding... tough one... a lot of people need them, but who wants to dig deep and make a donation? Like cancer charity - we only really think about them when we need them don't we? Personally I already support charities, none more in my view important than another... I don't know what the solution is or will be... maybe more corporate sponsorship?DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I volunteer for the CAB, and i have done for the past few years. While i acknowledge that CAB is available online, not everyone has access to the internet, and some of the clients have poor reading and writing, not to mention their other problems.
The bureau im based at is struggling with the level of demand that has increased over the past year, and the cut in funding. but we are coping the best we can.
I am sick of hearing about the "big society" and "we all in this together"... Cameron and his cronies dont give a stuff for those in real need, those in private rented houses where they have rats and mould, and the landlord couldnt give a stuff.
Or the pensioners who has ben ripped off by a company........0 -

The above mentioned site has precisely 5 paragraphs about employment and support allowance for example.
The DWP internal staff guidance is over a thousand pages - for that benefit alone.
Many people, if faced with (for example) a claim from the DWP that they've been overpaid benefit, won't know how to effectively make an appeal, and how to research if the decision of the DWP is in fact correct.
The guidance on how to make appeals that is available from the DWP is woefully inadequate, and does not properly explain the process.
The DWP make errors. Sometimes these errors are serious, and lead to serious consequences - people being imprisoned, or losing their home due to being unable to effectively appeal.0 -

Local CAB are responsible for their own funding, which is mostly paid by local councils and other sources. Yes, they get money from CAB head office, but it's not as much as you'd think and really only covers things like buisiness expenses (Rents, heating, IT etc..).......maybe Citizens Advice could cut the number of high paid staff at their headquarters in London before cutting front line services that help the public...Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

The CAB are first of all heavily paid and their remuneration for each member of staff is massive. Second, the CAB do not use social policy properly because they are funded by loacal and central government. This means they have an undisclosed conflict of interest and would never tell the government what it really thinks because it is paid BY the government through grants. There are plenty of decent debt advice people out there, and their rates are negotiatble to help those in need. And if you are wondering, I volunteered for the CAB for years. They are not altruistic in most cases. They are career driven usually.0
