Bizarrely, this particular scammer also referred to Osama Bin Laden, claiming the former terrorist leader would personally return the money
:rotfl:ok how was he going to do that then? he is dead.0 -
Haven't actually had a caller claim he was from Moneysavingexpert - but had a call a week or so ago from a "Mumbai" citizen who claimed he was calling from the World Investment Centre (or so it sounded ???) on behalf of Moneysavingexpert - I had been identified as a regular investor in stocks and shares!!!- I gave him short shrift - but as usual 1471 didn't recall the number.0

The article mentions joining TPS to stop unwanted calls, which obviously will not stop these scammers from foreign countrys. The best way to stop junk calls is to join the telephone preference service register. It is illegal for UK companies to call any individual who has indicated they don't want the calls.
The article then goes on to say :This won't however stop all calls, so if you still get them, write down the number of any unwanted callers and then submit a complaint to the regulator PhonepayPlus to get it blocked.
From what I have read, PhonepayPlus is only associated with a Code Of Practice for Premium Rate Phone Products, so is nothing to do with stopping unwanted calls, is it ?This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They should make blocking anonymous Caller-ID a FREE service.0

Has anyone ever heard of a company called 'Creditright' in Swansea? I have had a couple of calls from them saying that they could claim back money for me for interest that may have been charged on redemption charges/fees in previous mortages and on my credit limits being raised on credits cards without my requesting them?
They want £199 upfront but guarantee it will be refunded if I do not have a claim or when my claim has been paid. They say they only take 25% of the interest accrued but I would get the whole claim amount plus 75% of the interest.
Sounds a bit strange to me!!0 -
I got cold called by someone claiming to be M&S two weeks ago. I am registered with TPS and am ex directory but as I’m a regular customer of theirs I wasn’t initially suspicious.
The caller said she had some information which would be of interest to me. She then said that before she could divulge this she would have to take me through some security questions. I replied that I had no proof she was actually calling from M&S and I never give out personal information over the phone. I said that she could post the information to me, since if she really was from M&S she would already know my address.
Two weeks have passed and I haven’t received anything from them through the post.0 -
So, if someone calls or visits me claiming to be from moneysavingexpert.com, is it OK for me to say that I work for moneysavingexpert.com just to get rid of them?0
