I keep getting calls from 0141 567 6202 and you go to answer and just silent. I tried calling them back but an automated service said they were a marketing company working on behalf of various companies.
This has been going on for about the last 3 weeks.
Will they ever give up!0 -
"Companies making a sales or customer service call must not telephone that person again on the same day if they've already tried but there was silence at the firm's end."
So they can still harass someone every day, indefinitely.
Ofcom doing their usual chocolate teapot impression.There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
And make them check the 'randomly' selected number to be dialled against the Telephone Preference database too before allowing it to be dialled !!!!0

Precisely.
I believe these calls must be outlawed completely.
I'm sure I'm not the only one but I have been harrassed by anonymous nuisance caller(s) in the past (not financial institutions - just some stupid idiot(s)).
If silent calls are being added to the mix by legitimate companies, it can become seriously disturbing.
Under extreme circumstances, I can see how it would be possible for these silent calls to trigger a breakdown or even suicide. It's not beyond the realms of possibility. If that sounds extreme to anyone on here, imagine someone going through a very difficult period in their life who is starting to become depressed or going through some other temporary psychiatric issue(s).
Ban these calls totally - NOW!!0 -
But this will presumably only apply to UK based companies ?? So an agency based in the Phillipines or the Indian subcontinent will be unaffected.0

I reported a number yesterday thats silent. Its a DCA chasing my ex-OH who left over 2 years ago and I have changed the number since; so how on earth this people obtained my number goodness knows. (I have passed on his new contact details too).
Calling at least once a day and only one human being a week. Not expecting them to go away though.0 -
...but as some folks say - it won't stop international nuisance callers.
The real answer for me would be to be able to simply block calls. I know some phones can do it, but neither of the mobile phones in my house can do so, and providers don't seem prepared to offer the service. Funny how mobile phone manufacturers seem to be able to fill out phones with expensive geegaws that few of us want and even fewer actually need - but can't provide simple services like this.
I know some numbers come through as unlisted but I never answer such calls, either on my mobile or landline. Which is a bit of a bind since I found that my local NHS often now appear as unlisted! (What's THAT all about?)
@Rupert Bear - 0141 567 6202 is Scottish Power, so they will be covered by the new regulation - report them if it continues.0 -
the silent calls are infuriating, I hope this goes some way to help
in reducing them.
I seem to get loads, but always have to hold on as we also get legitimate recorded messages that take a while to start up.bertie200

Ofcom has recently published its guidelines for Silent Calls.
Ofcom’s revised policy sets out a series of requirements for organisations using automated calling systems, including:
*Any abandoned calls must carry a recorded information message which identifies the source of the call and offers the person called an opportunity to decline further calls from that source;
*Calling line identification (CLI) must be presented on all outbound calls from call centres using automated calling systems. CLI allows people to dial 1471 and access the telephone number of the person or organisation calling them;
*Telephone numbers dialled then abandoned should not be called again by that organisation’s automated calling system for at least 72 hours, unless a dedicated operator is available to take the call;
*Abandoned call rates must be below three per cent of total calls for any 24 hour period for each campaign. This is a lower threshold than existing published industry codes which require a five per cent limit, and is intended to require operators to manage their systems more effectively; and
*Records must be kept to demonstrate compliance with these requirements.
Sections 128-131 of the Communications Act 2003 give Ofcom power to take action against persistent misuse of electronic networks or services, including silent and abandoned calls.
Ofcom will apply these policies to all UK companies commissioning services from any call centre, whether located in the UK or overseas.
Ofcom Chief Executive Stephen Carter said: “Excessive abandoned calls have become a real problem. We believe new fines and new rules, backed by firm enforcement action, are appropriate and necessary.”
