I had a call from Optimum Calls yesterday, they are based in Maidstone, Kent. The caller seemed a nice lad, which I guess is their way to reassure they are a good company. I have yet to give them any details and am getting a call back later this afternoon as they requested my direct debit details, I asked for them to send me their t&c through the post before I agree to anything. But they wanted my direct debit details. I don't intend on going through with this after what I have read on this thread and the links posted.

However on the review center link some guys have posted, although the main gripe is their 5 year contract and cancellation fee of £395+VAT, there have been positive reviews at the bottom of the review page, mainly where people have saved alot of money on thier bills.

Or am I just being naive?!

You are being naive. Would you really sign a 5 year contract for any telecoms? Would you be happy to be paying now for broadband what you were paying 5 years ago? And bear in mind that the prices will only be fixed for the first 12 months, after that the price will rise and you are still locked in for 4 years.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes I get ya pal, and you're rite, its madness signing upto 5 years with any company. So what would be the best way for me save money on my phone bill with BT? We are a small business on bt retail I believe.

What tariff are you on at the moment with BT? Do you actually need a business contract if it's just one line (and basic broadband)?

Id have to check what tariff im on, think I'll get round to that this w/e. Thanks.
  • I had the call from the nice man earlier in the week and was taken in ... almost ... got to the bank details bit and smelt a rat so said I would talk to BT (we all know that is nigh impossible)and talk later. I checked the forums and then the website then registered here just to say the following.
Suggest anyone considering moving to them in any way to go to their website and check out legals ..9.91 .. 15.1 ..15.3.. etc
Its unlikely you would want to go any further. The contract is quite different to the nice man who called. To qualify for the cheaper calls there appears to be a need for 1 yr rental payment. No not just that there's more .... go to optimumcalls.com and read it for yourself its an education ... its not even small print.
Oh and if you arent going to join them dont give them your bank details ..

Absolute Con Keep away from this so called LTD Company and all costs!!!
  • be aware! i feel i have been conned. never at any time did i agree to a 5 year contract. also wasnt told that the line rental goes up after a year.
  • I've been scammed by this sixty month contract that I misheard as six months. I have listened to a recording of the sales conversation and where it is recorded the sixty months is clear, on the other end of a phone line it comes across as six months, they are rude, agressive and seem to delight in the expense and hassle they cause. I have written to my MP and to the MP Mike Penning - mike@penning4hemel.com where they are based. I would urge all of you who have been scammed by Optimum Scum to do the same, if enough of us do it they will go out of business.
