What's the deal?

Bauer Consumer Media publishes 43 magazines, including popular titles Empire, FHM, Grazia and Heat amongst others. Until 30 June, quite simply it'll allow you to try one of its magazines totally for free.

Which magazines are available?

The full list of titles to choose from is:

Angling Times, Arena, Bike, Bird Watching, Car, Classic Bike, Classic Cars, Closer, Country Walking, Digital Photo, Empire, FHM, Garden Answers, Garden News, Golf World, Grazia, Heat, Improve Your Coarse Fishing, Kerrang!, Land Rover Owner, Match, Max Power, Model Rail, Mojo, MCN, Performance Bikes, Practical Classics, Practical Fishkeeping, Practical Photography, Q, Rail, Ride, Sea Angler, Steam Railway, Today’s Golfer, Top Sante, Trail, Trout & Salmon, Trout Fisherman, Your Horse, Yours & Zoo.

How to get one

You can get the free magazine by filling in the online form to request a call back or calling 0845 3573001 between 8am and 8pm (it'll cost you 2p/min plus 6p set-up fee from a BT landline).

Just give your name and address and you'll be sent a free copy. The operator may also offer you a further two copies of the magazine for £1, but you'll need to give credit card or direct debit details for this - unless you're willing to pay full price, do cancel the direct debit by the time the cheap mags stop coming through. The free offer does not need you to give payment details.

The free magazine will then be sent to you direct from the publisher in 4 to 8 weeks time depending on which title you choose.

Thanks to MoneySaver bela165, for the top spot. When we spotted the offer we checked with the publisher about including the whole range of magazines in our email.

If you input different phone numbers you can get nore than one of these magazines. I have ordered one using my mobile number and one using my landline........am wondering if I should try for a hat trick by using the works number as well!!!;)

I have seen a few mags that I would like. I hope that I can order them all.

    Thanks

I just rang and ordered one free copy of Heat Magazine.

When I declined the offer of 4 (?) more magazines for £1, because I did not want to give account details, the sales operative said "Goodbye" and hung up on me.

Whether I get my free copy or not, that's a pretty dodgy way to speak to people on the phone - even from salespeople!
  • I took a three for £1 offer after getting an email offering me one free.

Only problem was they took the direct debit payment after I had only received three issues, instead of four.

I was told the free one is dealt with by one company who then pass details on to another one. Somewhere along the line they "forgot" about the free one.

I got the money back, but it had to go to head office for approval to issue a cheque and took about six weeks.

If you take the offer and set up a direct debit, make sure you cancel it after the second issue arrives!!

To be safe, cancel it after one issue arrives. You could probably cancel it after they take the money for the trial period before any issues arrive and be safe, as it seems they don't know it's been canceled until they try to take more money later.

I had a trial with Marie Claire where you were supposed to cancel after the second issue. I canceled on the day the second issue arrived. The next day I got an email from MC saying thanks for renewing, we took a direct debit yesterday! I was so mad, but when I went to online banking they had not taken the money. I must have canceled my DD very shortly before they tried to take more money. I got an email later saying they tried to take the money and were denied and that I could sign up again if I wanted. That's pretty shady telling people to wait until the second issue to cancel, then trying to take the money the day the second issue arrives! Just beware everyone, and cancel those DDs earlier than the mag companies tell you to!
  • There is a link to 6 free issues of The Week on http://www.besthighstreet.com/magazines.html

Someone else mentioned that web site a week or so ago. They also have links to plenty of cheap trial offers from several magazine publishers and you can do it all online, so there is no phone call or phone cost.

Thanks to whoever mentioned the site before (they also have a link to half price dresses from Miss Selfridge!)

The original post from MSE Wendy says that you get one free and that you can get another 2 for £1, making three in total.

Also, I wonder, if you cancel after 1 or 2 issues, whether they would still send the rest of the trial ones?

    Does anyone know?
