Narnia premiere - help needed urgently please

Options
Hi, new to this part of the forum and I hope that this is the best place to post.

I urgently need some advice please.

A couple of weeks ago I entered a Mercedes Benz Viano postal competition to win tickets to the Narnia premiere. Forgot all about it until I got a phone call last Friday afternoon from the Mercedes Marketing dept, telling me that I'd won 5 tickets to the Narnia premiere, and to look out for the post. The guy was off the phone before I thought to get any contact details.

I told my husband and the kids, who were all excited - we booked a parking space straightaway, and waited for the post.

By Tuesday there was still no sign of tickets, so I went to the Mercedes website and got the customer services number. They hadn't heard about the competition, and said there was no marketing department. Promised to call back, did so once but with no progress.

So yesterday I used saynoto0870 to track down their head office switchboard, got through to the marketing dept, who gave me the runaround. They seemed more concerned about how I'd got their details than anything else. I was told first that there had been an issue with despatch, then that the tickets must have been lost in the post. When there were still no tickets this morning, I called them again and they told me they were trying to get tickets reallocated and would call me back within the hour. That was 3 hours ago.

So what should I do now? The kids have gone off to school not knowing if they're going or not. We would need to leave before 4.00 to make it there in time, so I need to get a definite answer one way or the other asap.

I don't want to sound ungrateful - if we hadn't have won these tickets I wouldn't have given it a second thought. But to be told that you have, and spend all week looking forward to it, not to mention the £21 outlay for parking - even if we do still get there against the odds, this has really taken the shine off it to be honest.

Any helpful advice please?

I would ring them back also, and perhaps ask if you could be put on some sort of guest list, or if they could have tickets waiting for you at the venue...

Hope you get it sorted! xxxx

Sorry I can't help, have tried searching for anything to do with it online but with no luck

The only thing I think you could do and I have no idea if this would work, is to try and contact the o2 and explain your situation. You never know how helpful they might be?

  • Thanks all for helpful replies so far - have called them back and been much firmer in tone, it turns out that I'm dealing now with a marketing agency who are jointly responsible with Mercedes Benz Viano for this competition. The guy said that he'd forgotten to call me back because he's been busy ringing other competition winners to check that everything is ok. I respectfully suggested that he should prioritise this and they have promised to get me an answer within the hour. Hmm where have I heard that before.

Hubby is on to head office now, but they don't seem to have a clue, asking us for the name of the marketing agency.

I think this is your best bet, as they should have a record of your details etc, while the O2 won't.

My OH gets invited to some of these things through his job, and it seems to be standard practise to send the tickets/invitations very last minute - so that people can't put them up on ebay etc. When this has happened to him, he has been put on a guest list.

Did you keep the name of the person you spoke to last time? Try again, you've waited long enough for them to call back. If you lived further away, you may have had to leave by now!

I hope that you get to go and have a lovely time.

    Xmas Saver!
Just an update - still no callback. Rapidly approaching the point where it'll be too late to go anyway, so pretty well resigned to not going now. Kids will be really upset, but I can't see what else we can do. This has caused a huge amount of hassle and bad feeling, and still no-one that we've spoken to has had the decency to put their hands up and tell us what happened. Safe to say we won't be buying a Mercedes anytime soon!

The irony is that we never win anything, and then when we do...

Thanks for all the good wishes, this is a really friendly board!

I would call them back again and do as some of the others have suggested and ask to be put on the guest list. It's not on that they've gotten you & your family's hopes raised and you've paid out for this and they're simply ignoring you.
