Default Virgin loophole! TV, line rental, weekend calls and broadband for £20.54/month

POSTED 17 JUNE 08

What's the deal?

New customers signing up to Virgin Media cable bundle via one of the special cashback websites can get £100 cashback - £35 more than usual. This deal is due to last during June, but may end before that, so go quick

What's available.

The £100 cashback applies on all Virgin packages. So for example, normally over a year, including installation you'd pay £346.50 for landline, TV, weekend calls and broadband which is an average of £29/mth. With this deal it's £246.50 an average of £21/mth.

Remember a landline on BT or TalkTalk costs £10.50 alone so this is a cracking deal, if you're planning on getting a Virgin package.

One thing to note is that making calls via Virgin, especially to mobiles, is expensive, so if you do get this package read the Calling Mobiles Cheaply guide to cut the cost.

WARNING! Cashback site payouts are never 100% guaranteed.

Cashback sites are specialist websites that list retailers/product providers and get paid if you click through them. Importantly they then give some or all of this cash to you. If you're new please read the Best Cashback Sites guide before continuing.

As cashback sites rely on retailers paying them, you can never count cashback as a sure thing until it's in your bank account. This particular deal is via Quidco and it has said that 95% of people should get this without a problem; and it's satisfied. My instinct is this time it should be fine... but its never 100% guaranteed.

How to get this deal

  • Register at Quidco. If you're not already a member join (its free)cashback site Quidco. It takes £5/year off your total cashback paid so if this is the first cashback deal you've done you'll get £95.
  • Then click from it to Virgin. Once you're registered and being tracked at Quidco, use its links to Virgin, and you'll be on Virgin's site, just like normal. Yet this way your actions are being tracked and if you purchase it'll be registered to you.
  • Be careful if you've visited Virgin recently. There's a very small chance in this case you'll have a cookie on your computer (a small piece of tracking info) that means the sale won't be registered to Quido.

If you have you need to delete cookies; something you can do by following the instructions in your browser (usually either Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari... if its not one of these, you're probably a techie and know all about this!)
Enter e-mail to get it:
View Past Emails, FAQ Privacy Policy

P.S. Thanks to Jum Coxell who orginally spotted this deal. We've added this post so we can give MoneySavers from the email the full low down.

Default Virgin Media Cable Packages £100 cashback with quidco

http://www.quidco.com/virgin-media/

I have virgins 3 for £30 deal which gives free landline calls 24/7 plus basic tv and broadband for £30.00 per month.

So using this you can basically get just over 3 months free.

I have took up this cashback and tracked

I wouldn't bother with the TV though. Medium package is no more than Freview. You get a couple more on Large and a few more again on XL, but not really worth the money. Wait for FreeSat from BBC/ITV.

The broadband speeds are good though - went for XL and getting 20mb if connect directly to router

Default cash back sites

I bought car insurance via Quidco; '£110 cashback with LloydsTSB' - never got a penny!! Similar thing with linemypocket, no £40 cashback for an Alliance & Leicester bank account. These are the only things I've bought via cashback sites. I wonder where the money goes?

Hey,bearfreeman,I hope this helps you to get all that money (£ 150.00 -5.00 = 145.00).

Login to your account at quidco.Look for 'earnings' link. You will see three sections namely - Transactions,Payments,Enquiries. Click on enquiries you will be directed to 'Earnings Enquiry Submissions' page, then read all the directions patiently and understand what neds to be done and if you are happy with the info then click on the 'Click here to submit an earnings enquiry' link. You would be directed to a new page 'New Earnings Enquiry'.From the drop down menu (Merchant) choose the company in your case first enquiry would be for LloydsTSB and second enquiry would be for linemypocket.

I also suggest you setup BACS payment on your quidco account (you'l have to provide your bank details). Please be warned that you 'MUST' have security software on your pc for any online transactions, because if your details are used for fraud then 'you' would be liable if you did not have an updated security software on your pc !!. If you ned anymore help please let me know i would be happy to post it here.

Ahh...I can never thank Martin enough for this website.

I read it somewhere - "The great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it".Martin has reserved this deed for next millions of great lives he is about to live on this and/or other planets in the universe/s.

Please remember that Virgin Media are yet to make a definitive statement concerning their implementation of Phorm’s Webwise on their broadband service. Because of this, you should think very carefully, before locking yourself into a twelve-month minimum contract term for broadband with Virgin Media.

Below are some links to pages covering this issue.

I'm just coming to the end of 12 months with Virgin. I'm wondering if it's worth cancelling the contract and then starting a new one to get the cashback...

Quidco are generally good, but be warned that (quite rightly) they can only do so much for untracked transactions. I had a £25 transaction investigated and refused even though I provided account details, numbers, and a transaction ID that as a customer I could see in my account. The merchant claimed that transaction didn't exist!!!

Thanks in advance,

Steve V

You state on this thread that it is for New customers, but where does it state that on the Quidco page? If you have a service with Virgin and want to add an additional service you should also qualify. I have added the TV basic package as it is free and does not cost anything to run, so hoping to get the £100 as it clearly does not state, for New Customers only!!

As far as I am aware all Virgin TV packages have On demand which is a great service allowing you to catch up with shows. I am on the 4 for £40 and I have XL TV - more than enough channels, Setanta, big library of Free On demand stuff like The Wire, The Sopranos, Curb etc.
Considering I was paying £30 a month for my mobile alone and now I get Line Rental, landline calls, Digital TV, Broadband and 300 mins anytime mobile and 600 texts I would say this was a good offer for a tenner a week!!

I've just left Virgin because once the introductory rate ended, their prices are terrible. I was on the 20Mbit service and got no better than 8Mbit from the real world (average calculated over at least 10 bandwidth monitoring services + some real-world experience).

Had I not left them for that, the phorm + BPI nastygram stuff would have made me.

Avoid.

Thumbs down Virgin Media

We have had Virgin as we had no choice because we had NTL for years. We have had endless problems with the broadband, then we lost Sky One which to a certain extent wasn't their fault I guess and now they have written to us pointing out how they are deliberately slowing the broadband down between certain times of day because people are downloading too much which I find utterly unacceptable. Unfortunately to be fair it is still the cheapest tv/broadband I can find that offers the amount of tv channels and the speed of broadband so we have to just put up with the unreasonable attitude that we pay for a 24/7 service and get only a 18/7 service. They say they may con sider doing this between 10am and 3pm too, just in time for the summer holidays when the kids are home during that time. Thanks. Consider this before you sign up with them.

once my contract was finished i callede to cancel and was put through to the retention department....it took a while to answer (as so many people were trying to cancel aswell) but i ended up with free calls all day and night, broadband down to £10 a month and TV and phone for £15 a month aswell. i was happy with this for a while then i got greedy!!!

i called back less than 3 months later and said it was still too expensive andi wasn't interested in any deals....so i got half price mobile calls and internation with 10% off for 6 months.....score i thought.

after my 6 months and my first scary bill in a while. i called back and was offered a deal where it was all included for £19.95 a month with my free landline calls etc....

well i lied then!! i told them i'd had a better deal before, it was still too expensive and the service doesn't meet what i want anymore (they had just lost the sky channels) so they gave me loads of discounts and things on my account which meant for 5 months...THEY were paying ME for having their stuff!! then once some of the discounts ran out, (and this is still the deal i'm on till July) 8mg broadband for £10 a month and TV and phone for £1.95 a month!!!
and they even sent me a wireless router when i called to cancel bband 6 months ago!!

i hope this will inspire some people to haggle their way....virgin wanna keep everyone they can so tell them what you want and you'll probably get it!!

roll on July, i'm going for 20 mb broadband for a tenner this time!!!!

Great haggling - thought I got some good deals, but yours sound cracking.

Just wondering if you did any of this during the 12 month minimum term or after?

Wink Virgin

I think I have a great deal with Virgin with a lot of sweat and negotiation. I have been a customer for years and when I recommended a friend to join he got a great 'new customer' deal which was the same package as mine only half the price. (I was paying around £70 a month). I phoned and gave off and threatened to leave, but I realised they would do a better deal with a bit of negotiation, I perservered and now have the following deal, which I don't think can be beaten.V+ Box with XL package (records, pauses live TV, HD content, On demand etc)Second normal box in another room, again with XL channels.10 mbit BroadbandHome telephone with free local and national calls anytime. All for £33 !!!!!!!! a month. The moral of the story is to get on the phone and bargain them down. Good luck!!

Default You don't need to go via a cashback site to get this deal

Before I read this thread I actually rang Virgin Media yesterday and they offered me the same deal over the phone - and no need to go via cashback sites - no hanging on to see if you receive the cashback or not.
