Ebay USA

Hi there

Anyone else buy stuff from Ebay USA and get it shipped over here?
You can still get great bargains at the moment with the great exchange rate.

I just bought a pair of brand new Reef flip-flops.
Usually £40 over here, but incl postage i got them for less than £30.

Also Crocs shoes for my daughters were just over half the price incl shipping.

Go to www.ebay.com

Always best to contact the seller first and find out what their shipping charges are before you bid.
Some are more clued up, and try to rip you off on postage.

For example, I paid $10 for shipping for the Reefs, but some sellers wanted to charge $30.

bear in mind that less than £30 is in the zone for a customs duty charge

I buy quite a bit from the US (not specifically ebay) and have noticed that customs is catching out more and more small parcels eg $36 caught an £11.30 charge the other week. I think the courier (post office etc) are linking up computers because it is a nice earner for them

I have ordered $260 worth of paper patterns this week and am very prepared to be charged but at least I will only be charged one handling charge as well as customs

Vitamins are still good value, even with the charges but I have resorted to ordering one thing at a time now so that I stay well below the £16 allowed

I buy all sorts from the USA with very little problem

Usually no customs charges either, if they get missed

I buy comics from the US & never had any issues with customs. Then again not sure if customs charges apply to printed paper.

customs decide what items are charged not RM nor a courier
however theres definently more items being stopped by customs, but this maybe in correlation to the rise in internet sales/packet numbers

I ordered two jackets from US ebay, both together was around £80/£90..
When they arrived in the UK they charged me around £60 duty and tax.

Its appalling how much they charged me, but there was nothing i could do about it .
If i ever buy from there again I will definitely be more careful.

A lot of the charge though will be handling charges either from the courier or RM, you can't claim that back from HMRC.
