Worcester Bosch 37 or Baxi Main 30 combi

Just had a quote for the installation of a combi...two options. WB £2550 or Baxi £2100 so a difference of £450 more if I went for the WB. We live in a detached three bed house (1996) with a bathroom and an en suite.
The quotes seems reasonable, but wondered if anyone has any experience of these combis and which one is best...I know the WB (15L/min) is more expensive than the Baxi (12L/min), but the money isnt the issue, I just want a reliable and efficient boiler!
Thanks

Do you need the higher water rate? WB do smaller boilers - seems a bit unfair to compare price for different spec-ed models. I've got a Worcester Bosch that's 11 years old and going strong - no problems whatsoever so far.0

Good morning: I'll throw another one into the mix Vaillant Ecotec Plus 837 .. the Vaillant has a stainless steel heat exchanger and would be comparable in price to the WB .I'd avoid the Baxi/Main. How detailed are your quotations i.e. what do they include? Details on what a full specification quotation should entail have been posted many times...a quick search should reveal all
A boiler is only as good as its installation and annual servicing.

Hi ya - I like the idea of the higher rate...we have two powerful mains showers and whilst I know that wont run together once we have a combi I dont want the water temp to lessen when the tap goes on downstairs! The quote is to:
drain to exisiting system and domestic water systems
remove hot water cylinder and alter pipe work
supply and fit new combi and connect pipe work
run a condense line to drain
find and alter exisiting gas pipe to run new combi (it is being relocated from kitchen to airing cupboard up stairs)
refill, test and commission systems
Need to ask about timer (but pretty sure its included) and warranty.

Hi...would recommend a scale inhibitor, Boiler Buddy or Magnaclean (will extend the life of your system), a programmable roomstat, and the installation notifed by the CORGI to Building Control as well as TRVs on all rads except one in the room/area where the roomstat is located. If you are completely sold on a combi and want an even higher flow rate take a look at the Vaillant Ecotec Plus 937
You're welcome.

Thanks Canucklehead..really helpful. Do I still need a boiler buddy even if I live in a soft water area? I never need to de-scale the kettle as I live close to the sea....not sure if the boiler buddy does more than reduces scale?

We have had a Worcestr Bosch for 5 years and it breaks down on average 2 or 3 times a year! Maybe we are just unlucky but I would never ever buy one of these boilers again.0 -

Good afternoon: The Boiler Buddy removes magnetite, rust and other metallic particles and is rated highly by my OH. We live in the southeast (v.v. hard water) so OH fits scale inhibitors as recommended by Vaillant in their installation manual for hard water areas...if you're fortunate enough to have soft water, lucky you;) ...we fight a constant battle against scale here in Kent and I refuse to have a water softener (and we are at the seaside too!)

Spoke to the plumber who quoted today and the price does include a wireless themo but not a timer or rad themos which he has quoted at £12 each. Presumably, you can use any wireless themo to run a boiler or does it have to be the same brand as the bolier?
I have had a look at the Vaillant 837 too and now I am REALLY confused as to whether to go for that or the WB 37CDi.
I know nothing about boilers or plumbing and have had a look at the technical data on each and there doesn't seem to be much in it, other than some people swear by Vaillant and others swear by WB - or am I being too simplistic and missing something far more important?
Is there much difference in the parts between the Vaillant or WB? Any views on whether an analogue or digital timer is best?
Thanks from a very confused person who knows nothing about combi's!!0 -
Good morning: You can use any wireless programmable roomstat which is compatible with the boiler (see manufacturer's specification/consult your CORGI). Vaillant uses stainless steel heat exchangers as opposed to aluminum in the WB...the s.s.h.e. is theoretically more resistant to corrosion. Digital appeals more than analogue. Another option is the Alpha CD 35C fit with the Premier Pack extends the warranty to 5 years: Alpha's Easystat wireless programmable roomstat is also a good product: the boiler world is your oyster;)

Thanks Canucklehead...you are really helpful and clearly an expert in all matters boilers! Brilliant! Thanks for the additional options ( I think?! :-)) although my brain is already spinning. Think I will stick to the WB or V option...do you know anything about the difference in spare parts or is it pretty similar...think I am leaning towards the V at the mo'....it is so hard, because the plumber who is doing the work knows little about the difference, and says its down to my personal preference as he is a Baxi Main advocate! Arragggghh, think I will have to do 'ini mini miny moe' at this rate!
