London initially, but other parts of the country due to go online soon - must have BT line (eg Liverpool Oct 05, Nottingham Feb 06, Brighton Feb 06). £20 a month for life allegedly..... payment in advance though, which sorta sends alarm bells ringing (BigBlueSky ISP anyone ?).
Apparently a Swedish company, who've done pretty well (I think Sweden's one of the cheapest Euro countries for broadband).
I'm a 'civil' servant and have nowt to do with this company BTW

Looks like extremely good. *especially* hi-spec modem free0

Looks good, especially with wireless modem for free! Looks like availability from London exchanges will be introduced in stages e.g. Streatham not available until Dec '05, boo.0

mmmm.. i'll believe it when I see it.
Super-unlikely you'll get 24mb (unless you live on top of an exchange). ADSL2+ will help, but not to that extent - afterall, its still got to come down a pair of copper wires that were originally designed for 1.5mb.
That said - thanks for the tip. Still worth registering since increasing interest in your area will increase competition (...and lower prices).
Also, bear in mind NTL (bleh..) also are looking to offer up to 50MB on their cable network see here: http://www.ntl.com/mediacentre/press/display.asp?id=797
Application offerings (and obviously price) will be the thing to watch from competitors e.g. there isnt point in having a 24mb line just for filesharing ;-)
BT is making interesting moves: http://www.netimperative.com/2005/07/25/BT_Arsenal/view?searchterm=None
I heard they are looking to win more sports away from sky.0 -

Some interesting small print:
BT line required
Subject to availability, provisioning and capacity in your area
Free broadband service, free connection and £20 monthly broadband service offer only valid for residential orders placed on or before 18.09.05
Free broadband service and connection provided during August and September 2005 only (regardless of order date)
Broadband monthly service fee of £20 per month (to be paid quarterly in advance) applies from 01.10.05
Be Box modem remains the property of Be Un limited - modem and welcome pack must be returned if the order is cancelled or rejected (£100 charge applies where it is not returned)
Anyone terminating this pilot offer must do so by notice on or before 30.09.05 - the standard notice period of 3 months will apply from 01.10.05
Prices include VAT
Up to 24 meg internet connection subject to line quality and distance from the BT exchange
The strange thing is that I pay £14.50 currently with Bulldog for their 1MB service and keep my BT line or can go 8MB with their line but I have 2 decent enough connections and got a free wireless modem/router from them plus free technical support (albeit not 24/7 it is open good long hours).
SO why change?0 -
Hmmmmm looks very interesting. It does look like a very barebones service though - no email or webspace package that I could see, though worth considering 24mb for £20!!! Blimey I remember the olden days when AOL wanted £49.99 for 512kb!!! Not available on my exchange until Dec 05.0

:T I checked last month and they did not provide in my postcode area at all, but today their site say Feb2006, looking forward to Feb now.0

I ordered this on the day they launched their service, 31/08/05. Seems like a great deal to me. I called them about email, webspace etc - I was advised they plan to introduce such things when they fully launch. (orders up to 18th are being treated as a trial, but at a very discounted subscription of £20pm, with free connection). Although to be honest, it doesn;t bother me, as I use Gmail for free 2GB email, and I'll still have sufficient web space with my free Plus.Net dial-up account.dbuk44 wrote:mmmm.. i'll believe it when I see it.

Copper pair wasn't even designed for 1.5Mbps was it??? Lines were laid long before the introduction of ASDL, or any other form of residential data line.
For those that want to get a rough idea of how fast their connection might be, based on the technology (ADSL, ADSL2+, etc), and the distance from the exchange, take a look at this chart. - Note this may be affected by old wiring, and other interference on your line.0 -
£20 offer extended till 25th Sep 05 - get on board
:hello:0 -
For those interested, Be* have now launched their product (no longer pilot).
