URGENT! My kodak memory card is saying it needs formatting, but I will lose all pics

Please please help, I am not the slightest bit any good with technology these days and have a major problem
My camera and computer are both telling me I need to format my Kodak SD card, but if I do all pictures will be lost?
I had it in the PC the other night, and quite possibly forgot to take it out when I switched the power off, would this be why it has suddenly done it? I have done this by accident before but this hasn't happened?
I am absolutely gutted (sat here in tears!) as this is the memory card that holds all the photos from my sons first months of life right from the second he was born. I hadn't got round to getting them printed due to lack of money, and this is the only place I have them stored.
is there anything at all I can do???? I am so upset you wouldn't believe, it would have been easier to accept if it was just bog standard photos, but obviously these are the most precious ones I own

Any help most gratefully received

when u put the card in the computer, does the computer recognise that there is pictures on the cardTake every day as it comes!!0

I don't think so, it just pops up saying you need to format this card, click here to do it, and either a continue or a cancel0

Read this thread here If you do format the card you will definitely not see your pictures again! You really should have saved the pictures onto your PC and burned them to CD or saved them on-line somewhere etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

most cards when new before u can use them need formatting i believe( i may be wrong though), is there a chance that when you have taken these photos they have saved to the cameras internal memory, rather than the memory card, if that is the case you should be able to download the pictures directly from the camera to the computer.Take every day as it comes!!0

So sorry Lucy. There are lots of clever peeps on here, so hopefully someone can help you out.
I lost a few pictures a while back and was very upset, so I always put them on CD straight away now, I do know how you feel. xxxA cloudy day is no match for a sunny disposition~ William Arthur Ward ~0 -

No, no chance at all, the camera is a few years old so not a recent fantastic model, and only held about 5 pictures on it before it was full.
I can't believe it, I don't even know what formatting is on memory cards or anything, I had never heard of a memory card going wrong, so didn't really know I had to back them up.
Thank you for all replies so far

Camera could be stolen, destroyed in fire etc etc. Developing a fault shouldn't be your sole reason for backing up."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

probably won't work but maybe try taking it to boots, see if they can print any off for you (bet someone on the boots grabbit board has a coupon spare for 5 free pics);)
will cost obviously, but worth a shot??!:heart2::heartpuls:heart2: I WOULD NOT CHANGE MY AUTISTIC DAUGHTER FOR THE WORLD

If the OP can't recover the photos themselves from the link espresso gave, I seriously doubt that Boots would be able to do anything."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Are you using a memory card reader or the leads?
I had a memory card at work the other day that didn't recognise that there were pictures on it I tried it in another computer and it read the card with no problem.
Do not get your hopes up that this will be the case with yours but could be worth the try just to see.0
