Wedding cake - HELP!

Options
Has anyone ordered their wedding cake from M&S?
It says that you have to purchase the stacking posts when you order the cake. Does anyone know what those cost or are they included in the cost of the cake? Does that mean that the cake is picked up as 3 separate cakes? If so how do you stack them? Do the cakes come on 3 boards?

HELP! Any advice would be gratefully received

    Hi Sahara,
I have'nt ordered from M&S but I have been looking into this to, all I know at the moment is that they do come separately, I only know this because you can actually buy them from the shop, I went in to take a look, I'm not sure about post because I am thinking of stacking them without posts.

    hope this helps

I ordered my cake from M&S and we did not get the post with the cakes as we are going to put it on a stand, two tiers for £50! Fantastic, i hope it tastes good, a few friends have had a cake from M&S and they have all been lovely.

    Hi Leopard lady,
Which one did you buy if it was only £50 for two layers, the only ones I have seen have been dearer than that.

I was thinking the same things and emailed them to find out.

They have given me another email address to check out about boards but I haven't got round to mailing them yet as OH wants a square cake and although they have one its not big enough, only 2 tiers and far too expensive.

If you PM me I'll let you have the email address.

Just talked OH into a round M&S cake :T

Knew the difference in price for the square one would swing it!

I've also mailed them to ask about boards and how easy they would be to remove. Will let you know when I get a reply.

Our cake's being made by a family member but I have been told that even the stacked ones are best leaving on the boards and using dowels in the cake below to support the next tier and prevent it sinking...

But I don't know... I just can't wait to tuck in!

The cakes do come on seperate boards. There was a thread about M&S cakes not so long ago that you might find useful

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=466337

The cakes can be stacked on the boards by pillars or without boards straight on top of each other like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/oliverandlisa/402810426/

If you are wanting to order the pillars from M&S I think you can only get them in stores as I cant see them on the order form.

The brochure lists a few ways to stack them and the dowels and pillars come with instructions.

    Emma :)
  • Thanks emms,
    I'll have a look.

ASDA do wedding cakes. They are really reasonable, £5.98 for a small cake, £8.98 for a medium and £12.98 for a large tier. That works out at £28 for three tiers.

If you line near Manchester, I've got a three tier cake stand, you could borrow.
