Telewest Broadband Customers - Downgrade your broadband !!

Telewest customers who have broadband you can save yourself some money by downgrading your broadband.

The following services are going to be upgraded from September.....

blueyonder broadband - 512k becomes 2Mb
blueyonder broadband complete - 1Mb becomes 4Mb
blueyonder broadband elite - 2Mb and 4Mb become 10Mb

At the moment I am paying £25 a month for 1MB broadband (due to become 4MB). Now I seriously dont need 4MB the exisitng service is ok for me, by downgrading to the 512KB service (due to become 2MB) I will save myself £7 a month and get double the speed from what I have now !

I have just called Telewest today and told them I was considering cancelling my service with them. I currently have 1MB for £25 and they reduced this to £17.99 per month from today.

Is that permanent or temporary ? you still get the 1MB service ?

It is permanent. and i will be getting an upgrade soon.
  • Hi, I did the same as Shabini. I now get my 1Mb for £17.99 because I threatened to move it - although they said this came with a limit that they didn't currently enforce.

This news means that I'm even more pleased that I stayed with them. 4mb will be fab - I can't wait!

Did they happen to mention what this limit is that is currently enforced?

I didn't threaten on moving perhaps I should have ? anyway 2MB is ok for me the only major downloading I do is from iTunes. Just happy to save £7 a month.
  • Hi bbb_uk,

The limit was 8 hours a week surfing the net, but the person I spoke to said they didn't enforce it. I think this was just a way of them reducing my monthly charge and saving face for what they currently charge. I did this a couple of days ago.

Have a few examples of cheaper equivilent services e.g Tiscali at £15.99 for 2Mb with a 2 GB limit, or £19.99 for V21 Mb with no limit, then ring up and ask to speak to the disconnections people - they are the only ones who can reduce your charge. Say you've been happy with the service and are reluctantly considering moving because they are uncompetitive etc, and see what happens - you have nothing to lose.

I rang up today and managered to get a £8 discount for 3 months, currently on the 1MB £25/month service - but will downgrade once the upgrades have come onstream :D
