T-Mobile PAC code

My contract with T-Mobile finishes on 26th March. Now they tell me that if I request a PAC code before this date there will be a charge. They also tell me that it takes 5 days for the number transfer to go through.
So given that I will still be a T-Mobile customer for those 5 days, why can't I get the PAC code on the 21st March so that the transfer completes on the 26th when my contract expires? They seem to be holding me to ransom to keep paying them for another 5 days of a service I don't want if I want to keep my number.
I have emailed them to complain that I've been given different info on this by the same dept at T-Mobile on two different occasions - I was told to ring back today (26th Feb) and give a month's notice and I'd get the PAC code for free, but the guy I spoke to today disagreed with his colleague. Then he disagreed with my position above that I ought to be able to get the PAC code on the 21st, but couldn't explain *why* that was the case, just repeated that it doesn't work that way and accused me of not listening to what he was saying. On asking to talk to somebody else because I didn't like his attitude he cut me off.
It's the last straw, the sooner I'm shut of this set of cretinous imbecilles the better

Hey, I work for T-Mobile so hopefully I can explain things to you a little better than the csa's you have spoken to already.
Although you are being told you have to pay a charge to get your PAC 5 days early, it is not an extra charge. What you are actually being asked to pay is an early termination fee (ie the remainder of the line rental - 5 days' worth); however, after your account actually cancels (ie the number gets ported over) you are sent a recalculated final bill which takes into account that you have already paid this amount so then knocks it off your line rental.
Essentially, you are being asked to pay the final 5 days worth of line rental up front. You do not end up paying extra, you just pay it at a slightly different time.I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.0 -

Thanks for the clarification. I will end up paying extra though because I currently have a discounted contract, having given in to retentions last time I tried to cancel, and they've said that the £10/month I save isn't taken into account when calculating termination fees.0 -

Why do you have to be so childish about this! It is you that does not understand how it works.
:rotfl:
Why does it have to work in such a way that I am required to be a customer of a company I no longer wish to deal with for longer than I am contracted to? For the record I've had appalling customer service from T-Mobile and I want out, the sooner the better.0 -
Aw, sorry I didn't realise that (I'm customer services, not retentions). Discounts are usually taken into account with any credits etc on the bill.
You could always do it and then just call up when you recieve your final revised bill (14 days after cancellation) and explain the situation and see if they will wipe the extra. As it would probably only be a matter of a couple of £s discrepancy, they would probably agree to this (I would).I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.0 -
As someone who has just cancelled a contract and ported my number to T-Mobile it seems that there is a point being missed here.
When I connected to T-Mobile, within days I received my first invoice, as I did with most of my previous contracts, therefore being one month in advance with my line rental. (As we all are). Our, and nearly all contracts state that we must give at least 30 days notice of cancellation, this being so at the begining of the 11 month of a 12 month contract we have completed the T&C of the contract (ie 12 monthly payments) therefore allowing us to give notice within 30 days of the final day of the contract. Requesting a PAC within that final 30 day period should not warrant any additional payment as full payment on the contract has been made. I have yet to come across any companies would not allow a PAC to be issued (always a first time) before the final day, for the said reason.
My last contract was closed and the PAC transfered from o2 to T-Mobile half way through the final month of the contract as has happened with nearly all PAC transfers I have made. I can see where SteveBentley is coming from.0 -
In response to the last post, this is what I was addressing before.
Because you have technically already paid for the final 5 days, then they ask you to pay an early termination fee, they simply credit this same amount back on your final bill so you do not end up paying any extra. I appreciate it's a rather daft annoying way to do it (trust me, you try spending your weekends deciphering bills), but that's how it is.
As for the changing to PAYG suggestion. You can do this on the very last day of your commitment free of charge, and it changes within 24 hours, so the very next day you are on PAYG instead. However, they usually ask you to pay a £10 admin charge which then gets credited to your PAYG as top up credit; which is fine if you actually want the PAYG, but if you're only doing it to avoid the early term fee then it's probably not the greatest idea.I accept no liability if you chose to rely on my advice.0 -
Following my email to T Mobile Customer Services asking for clarification (and complaing about the rude and abrupt manner of the guy on the phone) they've called me this morning and confirmed that the guy I spoke to last night was wrong, and there won't be a charge for the PAC code, I simply won't get a refund for the remaining part of this month. The early termination fee does indeed take into account the discount.
He also mentioned that the guy I spoke to didn't make any note of my call on my account, so he can't follow up why I was cut off when asking to talk to somebody else. But he agreed that from my description of the way I was spoken to the guy seemed to be out of order.
Anyhow, I now have my PAC which I have just given to three so my number can be ported to my new skypephone :T
Thanks for everyone's advice.0 -
My 12 month contract with T-Mobile is coming to an end on 12 May. I rang up about a week ago to get my PAC code from T-Mobile to be told that they wanted to charge me for it. (I now know after reading this thread that they were looking for the rest of the month upfront and not an additional charge on top of my monthly bill)
So since I didn't know this initially, I asked them if I waited until 12 May would it be free to receive my PAC code, they said yes.
I'm looking to transfer my number to a Pay&Go O2 sim card, so if I was to ring up T-Mobile and get my PAC code on Monday then ring up O2 to get them to transfer my number over, will I get charged on a daily basis by T-Mobile until O2 successfully transfer my number?0
