Okay, this isn’t strictly MoneySaving, but it’s useful info nonetheless. If you haven’t had a chance to pick up a donor card, you can now sign up to the NHS organ donor register online.
The process only takes about three minutes, and saves you trekking down to the doc’s surgery. I only just found this out, so hope it’s of interest to others too.

Just signed up for mine. Thanks for the link0

I sent off for this ages ago after I lost my last purse (think it might have been nicked - I never saw it again). It took several months to come, as opposed to the leaflets where you get it instantly.0

I once did some work with people awaiting kidney transplant and I would urge people to sign up for this - I was truly shocked by the limits that dialysis put on their lives. I came home from a meeting and signed up straight away. Please sign up if you haven't already.0

If you guys and gals are willing to sign up to become an organ donor, can I ask that you also consider signing up to donate to the UK Multiple Sclerosis Tissue Bank. They need both sufferers and non-sufferers for comparison purposes, and liaise with the tissue donor people should the worst happen.
MS Tissue Bank Donation
Full registration can't be done online unfortunately, but once they have your signed consent forms back they keep a note, and all you have to do is express your wishes to your next of kin and request they ring them should the time come.
As a sufferer of MS myself I'd like to think that by being both types of donor I'm giving other people a chance to avoid having to go through what I might have to go through in the years to come.0 -
Just signed up too. Great idea. Takes seconds. I registered by post years ago but never received any reply so have always had a nagging doubt that my registration was received ... my mind now at rest, and I'm starting the day off with a feeling of great satisfaction. Go on, do yourself a favour ... feel good!0

I signed up years ago at the pharmacy counter in boots they printed the donor symbol on my advantage card only took a minute.
Anyone know if they still run this service?
Decided to find out seems they still link with donor register but you have to call them to set it up see bellow taken from boots.com
The NHS Organ Donor Register
Thank you to the one million Boots customers who have signed up to the NHS Organ Donor Register as a direct result of the Advantage Card link-up, giving permission for their organs to be used after their death.
There are two ways to join the NHS Organ Donor Scheme. Which you choose depends on whether or not you have an Advantage Card:
If you don't have an Advantage Card
If you're about to apply for an Advantage Card, simply follow the instructions on the application form on-line or on the Instant Advantage Card application form in-store.
If you already have an Advantage Card but would like to become an organ donor
We can arrange for you to have the organ donor symbol printed onto your Advantage Card and become an organ donor. Call the Advantage Card helpline on 0845 124 4545* and we'll get a new Advantage Card sent to you.
If you'd like to register specific organs for donation, please call the Organ Donor line on 0845 60 60 400 or visit their website at www.uktransplant.org.uk
Deciding to join the Organ Donor Register is a big step and your feelings about it may change. If you join but then later decide that you don't feel able to be a donor, you can have your name taken off the register easily. Just call the Boots Advantage Card helpline on 08545 124 4545* and we'll arrange to have your details removed. We'll also re-issue your Advantage Card without the organ donor symbol on it.
You can find out more about organ donation by visiting www.uktransplant.org.uk

Spooky this is mentioned now as I completed my registration for a donor card last week, followed the link I found on this site, http://www.easilyclaim.co.uk/site-map.php. It also provides a link through to the ICE Card (In Case of Emergency) site which I also completed as it is another fabulous idea. And whilst on the subject of fabulous ideas and feeling good about yourself, if you are not already, sign up and become a blood donor. :heartsmil0

Thanks for your story Maggs!
From the other side of the coin - my mum died recently, and although it was extremely difficult - and still is = it gave me a huge comfort to know that my mum was all for organ donation and I could make the right choice on her behalf. The donation service were fantastic, very caring and understanding, and it actually helped the whole grieving process knowing there was something positive I could do.0
