The flash demo says it is a Li Poly battery (the best type) and it is an OLED screen (also good). But the pictures looks like a backlit (multicolour) LCD.
Lexar make all the high end flash memory for camera so their stuff should be good? Mymemory.co.uk has this item but it is out of stock. £33ish

OK whats the maximum SD card size you can put in?
Is that accessable by the USB as well, or do you have to have a separate reader to transfer files onto it?
edit: found it
Is the LDP-600 compatible with 1GB SD cards?
Yes, the LDP-600 is compatible with the 1GB SD cards.
Can I use the SD card slot on the LDP-600 as a SD card reader?
Yes, you can transfer files to and from the SD card through the LDP-600. The LDP-600 treats the SD card as a mass storage device so you can copy pictures, music, documents to and from your PC through your PC or Mac.
On the downside, reviewers in the US saying this only gets USB 1.1 transfer speeds, which is pretty slow..0 -
It'd be nice to get the american one with the transmitter though?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0

By the looks of it there is different software\firmware for the US and EU. So I wonder if the UK ones come with the FM transmit hardware and all you have to do to enable them is use the US software\firmware?0

Can you post the links to the firmware and then perhaps someone who has one will try it?
I could try in in store at Morgan...Seth.0 -
seth,
have you tried this file http://www.lexarmedia.com/drivers/files/ldp600V107US.zip
To Update the firmware:
1. Unzip the file to a location on your hard drive.
2. Connect LDP-600
3. Drag and drop the file ldp600.rom to the Home directory of their LDP-600. Make sure that they copy it to the root.
4. Once the file is copied, disconnect the LDP-600.
5. Power off and power on the LDP-600.
6. Upon powerup, the LDP-600 will automatically start updating the firmware.
let me know if it works.. was about to buy the philips one.. but if this works .. then i'll get one of these instead..0 -

I'll download this and take my laptop to morgans to try it...
I'll try putting the Euro one back on too!
Busy tomorrow, Saturady the store is busy... Maybe next week.
Unless someone else as the Mp3 player?
I had a quick look at the file the difference seem to be small just the odd byte here and there, perhaps control bytes. I hope its the SAME hardware, but it might be a bit of the board not populated in the EU. I notice the cost in the USA is around $100 but it is only £30 here
suggesting a cheaper component cost? or a price based on feature set

seth wrote:The unit is classed as USB 2 perhaps the reviewer had a machine with a USB1 port or an OS / driver / BIOS issue that meant USB2 was not up?
Maybe, but there were two saying it on here:

1 gig SD would take eternity to load up at 1.1, can you try some transfers if you see one tomorrow?0 -

Thanks I read the review. The firmware update make the unit much better to use, eg the music starts off where you were are power down etc...

Looks like it was launch Nov/Dec 2004 http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/337/C3369/
The USB2 speed depend on the speed of the devices each side of the BUS.
So if I copy stuff onto an SD card via the MP3 that will be slower than laptop or PC staight to SD, as the CPU in the MP3 is not going to be as fast as PC!
PC disk - PC memory - PC Bus -USB controller - Mp3 USB controller - Mp3 file system - Mp3 SD card bus - SD Card in Mp3 will be slower than
PC disk - PC memory - PC Bus - PC USB Controller - SD Card
Also slow flash memory chips in the SD card are likley to be the bottleneck unless the review bought x88 SD

Hmm, so probably worth getting a proper USB2 SD card reader in that case then.
Did you get a chance to try the new firmware BTW?0
