Msn messenger virus??

Has anyone else been able to get rid of this virus??

Wots happening is once this virus gets hold of ur list of friends emails , it sends out from a mobile device a link to the virus??? to contacts on ur msn messenger. as if u had sent it...but u havent...


We have tried all methods of scanning the pc and deleting it but to no luck..

even the link to the virus changes its name each time ...


anyone else having same problem??

    i too got a virus on my laptop through this it got passed to my cousin in canada through my messenger it cost her money to get it sorted i didnt know what to do as everytime i tried to get rid of it and clean my laptop it came back so i ended up starting my laptop back to factory settings and "touch wood" i have not had it back and that was about 4 weeks ago.

    but this does not seem to be removed or found by any software I have tried.

    Like the person said maybe have to reformat the whole laptop

    Download and run ComboFix. Attach the log it creates to your next post.

    This thread is a bit old but I'll add my tuppence worth as it's the same question. One of your PCs has this type of MSN messenger virus - we know because MSN Live Messenger correspondents report getting the unexpected links.

    The following (with latest updates) do not detect it:
    AVG Virus and Antispyware
    Bitdefender Online Scan
    Onecare (Microsoft) Online Scan
    Spybot S&D

    So it could some sort of rootkit thingy here. I know about the advice to reinstall to factory settings but it takes 8 hours to reload with all the right software and restore email/multiple email accounts. I would prefer to identify it, otherwise there is no point in running scans at all - just reinstall every time!

    Any new ideas out there?

    Also can try this one Kaspersky Online scanner.
    Has pretty good detection rates.

    How do you set your computer back to factory settings? i have a BIG problem with my pc and i think this is my only answer

    my problem ha ha , where do i start . first a few weeks ago i wasn't getting my email through correct, then i was getting a postmaster error from addresses i never sent emails to .my computer is so slow it could stop any minute ha ha , i keep getting a warning come up from windows security centre saying i have a threat to my computer and need to download spyware NOW. I did this in a panic and the warning just keeps coming up . now saying virus on hard drive or disk drive cant remember sorry .Today i can get on web pages (some ) and then when i choose to go elswhere on a web site I.E forum on this site i wont says not responding i some how managed it but can't remeber how cos i tried so many ways .now as i type this letter i tried to add the icons wont do it ?on MSN i can sign in but when i try to get emails just dont respond i managed to get into them by going on to msn homepage then emails but i still couldn't delete any emails just did nothing .so i need to start my computer from scratch i think but dont know how to ?
    * Warning come up again ms-dos security saying a problem has been detected and windows is scanning my hard disk to prevent damage to my computer ..... HELP !!
