I stopped smoking using nicotine tablets. I found that these were much stronger than they needed to be, so I broke them into smaller pieces, usually about four. Then I would suck one piece slowly over a period of about half an hour. After that, I would wait as long as I could before having another one, although not so long that it started to feel uncomfortable. I made a point of increasing the time between successive pieces throughout the day, and ended up using around two tablets in the first day, without feeling as if I was missing out on anything.

On the second day I repeated the process with longer intervals. By the third day, I only had a couple of pieces all day. After that I didn't bother at all, although I kept a packet of tablets with me for weeks afterwards. I think that was an important factor as it meant that I never had to buy a packet of cigarettes because I could always have a tablet instead. Simply because I knew they were there, I didn't need to use them after the first 2-3 days. That was 18 months ago and still no problems.:j

Good luck with stopping. I can't guarantee that the method that worked for me will suit you but I'd say it's worth a try, particularly if you have trouble getting the first few days under your belt.
  • well a friend in work had tablets and patches and she said they didnt help her so i thought i wouldnt bother with them, thanks for posting.

They only work if you think they will.

You are still smoking...you've just stopped buying them! I found stopping altogether was the easiest way.

well done for quitting:beer: me and hubby quit 14yrs ago without the help of any patches or chewing gums etc... 9 days after packing in my dad died suddenly aged 56yrs ( its actually 14yrs today) it killed me but i never picked up a tab it's pure will power and determination that will get you thru it,

good luck and just take each day as it comes
  • You needs loads of determination and will power, patches or whatever you choose will help.

I stopped 8 years ago nearly with the aid of patches. I've lost my mother and been thru' a divorce since then - it never occurred to me to smoke again, it was too b***dy hard to stop! (35 a day habit, smoked for 25 years). It's saved me a fortune, as well as improving my health  .

Good luck to you, you can do it if you really want to, believe me

Good luck to you too freejunkie, (my friend saved over £3K last year when she stopped)

I've yet to try the HRT patches but I don't think they will be as far ahead for me as fags are behind!

I don't need an excuse to eat jelly n ice cream :p  ;):D :rotfl:
