Free Glasto tickets for a bit of work

Official MoneySavingExpert Insert:

What's the deal?

If you've always wanted to experience Glastonbury festival, but you've never had the ready cash for a ticket in time, then you'll be happy to know there's another way. Work as a steward at the festival and you'll not only get in free, you'll be paid (minimum wage), and you'll get to sleep in an area of the campsite which is flood-proof and has its own (flushing!) facilities.

You'll be required to work three 8 hour shifts over the period Wednesday 25th - Sunday 29th June 2008 and to pay a returnable deposit of £155.00 (to stop you scarpering once you get into the grounds). When you're off duty you'll be free to explore the festival as you please.

How to apply:

Go to the link provided below, and click through to the application form. You'll need Adobe Reader to read and print it out. If you don't have it, it's freely downloadable via a link on the same page.

Thanks to Petmidget for the original post.

See link above, not a joke or scam of any kind. Free tickets for 24 hours work over the 5 days or so.

Just to be fair I must declare an interest here, the firm involved is a client.

If you are interested move quickly as places are limited and this is being heavily advertised in selected uni's at the beginning of next term

You can do a lot of festivals through DC Site Services. Have worked for them before and they are good.

They even pay? Most stewarding/'volunteers' don't get paid. A pretty low wage, but certainly better than nothing!
  • well cost of ticket/24 is the wage plus I believe you quite often get some form of food and better toilet facilities.

DC Site Services pay about £50 per day. They sort the tax and NI themselves, so you get to keep all of that. And you get 2 meals per shift in the form of vouchers so you can use them whenever you want.

You also get a campsite away from the main bit with flushing toilets :)

  • Just a bit more information from personal experience.

With SLS, you get paid min wage for the hours you do, so roughly £120 - £130. A separate campsite outside main area, most importantly not in the valley if its raining. You have free access to festival during none work hours. The facilities are much improved, showers, hot food and drink subsidised and available 24/7.

The deposit is to stop people turning up supposedly to work then scarpering, and is refundable after the festival less a small admin fee. SLS run the fenceline and gate security/stewarding, other firms run stage/pit/campsite etc and I cant comment on what they offer.

Have done this before...when I did it you either paid the deposit price and worked three six hour shifts, or were paid, paid the deposit and worked eight hours. The longer shifts usually happen during the night when its likely that the people you'd most like to see are playing, however, which kind of sucks.

    The minimum age is 18.

If you want a similar experiance with less hassle try volunteering for OXFAM at the festival or be a Womble (work for network recycling). I've worked for security firms at festivals and have volunteered for OXFAM for the last six years. Out of the two I'd recomend OXFAM.
