hi,
can anyone tell me the terms of having a new line fitted.
Im currently paying Orange £15 a month (£9 off offer with my mobile)
this is the deal that includes line rental,
a 2nd line 0845 number,
free anytime landline calls,
unlimited 8mb broadband,
and also free calls to any orange mobiles which for what i use is an absolute bargain,
works out at £4.50 for all that lot if i still payed BT line rental!
and regardless of the bad reviews Orange get, ive never had a problem with anything!
however....im moving soon to a house without a landline fitted, i dont mind paying the £125 for a new line,
but to pay BT £10.50 a month for a further year?? nar!
If i went down that avenue, id be paying line rental to 2 companies!
im already in contract with 1, to who im im happy with, surely i cant pay top price for work doing on a line and be forced into a contract with a company who i dont like??

MAX £70 breach of contract. From 1st May 2007, for customers ending their service early, we replaced the existing charges with a policy that requires customers who have ordered a line on or after 1st May to pay the outstanding line rental for the 12-month minimum term of their contract, up to a maximum of £70 (incl. VAT). Customers moving home and transferring BT service to their new address will be subject to a new minimum term from the date of start of service at the new address.
When you cancel the contract you only pay the outstanding line rental for the 12-month minimum term of their contract, up to a maximum of £70 (incl. VAT). So if say 3 months were left you would only pay 3 x £10.50p= £34.50p.

For info, the companies I have come across that say they do reconnections/installs:
BT - £125
Madasafish - £115
PlusNet - £105
Bulldog - £99
With Madasafish and PlusNet you are not tied into a 12 month contract for phone - just need to give 1 months notice.
An amendment to the above, PlusNet will only do an install for you if you are an existing customer moving home - it's not available to new customers.

Looks like you may have to, unless you can get Orange to install a new line.0 -
Why not ask Orange to install the landline?0
-
Ask Orange why they want supply service at your new address as a moving customer.0

I rang them and as expected reading the previous posts, they say i have to get in touch with bt openreach, now there's a shock!
before i call back, can i insist they sort the install?
and if so, are there any t&c that i can quote to them?
seems to me its like wayne rooney playing for man utd and barnsley at the same time!
surely i can only have 1 legal contract for the same service!0 -
They can ask Openreach to install it, just as BT has to.
They may not want to but as you are willing to pay for the install cost I can't see how they can refuse.0 -

But you cant ask Openreach to supply it they only deal with suppliers.
Orange are able to supply it but they will not because they dont want to incur any expense, they would rather cherry pick BT,s customers.0 -

Sorry. Universal service obligation.
Basicly if you ask BT to do it they have to (barring things like youve been banned from using us due to being abusive to advisors ect). Orange, Talk talk et al dont have to conect if they choose not to. They can just say 'no ta, cant be bothered'.
Hope that helps a bit.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

Ofcom 'levels the playing field' by making BT set up Openreach to undertake installations/engineering and sell its services (connecting/reconnecting etc.) to any firm which wants to 'provide' line rental.
Then, it turns the newly-levelled playing field on its head again by allowing any 'provider' except BT to cherry pick jobs/customers and ignore (lie to in fact) anyone they choose.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
