paypal requesting police report??

I purchased a big tub of protein powder for my other half on ebay totalling £55, a box arrived with a cracked tub and no sign of any protein powder at all! The box was supposed to be signed for and I wasn’t even there to sign for it! I contacted the seller who said that because I signed there was nothing they could do, so tough luck. But I hadn’t signed!!!!!
So I put in a dispute on paypal this has now escalated to a claims dispute and paypal are looking into it. I am a bit confused though as they have asked for me to file a report with the police highlighting my issue. I am just a bit confused of what to say when I go to the police station, is this actually a police matter? I don’t want to be laughed at!!

I take it you opened an Item significantly not as described dispute with ebay, that would have nothing to do with the fact it was signed for.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0

That's right, due to the fact there was no item in the packaging!! lol! I just don't want to seem like a twit calling the police!Roxi xxSEPTEMBERAd Card total £72.49Quidco £77Pigsback 1140 points(Boots vouchers so far = £40)0

I can't see what the police will do ,given that there is no car driver involved:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Does the packaging show a price or weight?
That might indicate if the powder was there when it was posted
Still can't think what the police will do
If the dispute is with paypal, try giving them a ring and see what they say:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0 -
i really dont understand why they want you to contact the police? perhaps they aren't understanding that the box was sealed with a tub in it but no powder, i think they think that the tub was stolen out the box, therefore informing the police of a stolen item?
i really cant think of any other reason as to y you would contact the police.my boots and tesco addictions are costing me a fortune
 :j

hi,
i had a same request from paypal. i bought a bag from ebay which turned out to be fake and the first thing paypal asked was to file a police report.
so this is what i did..
went to police station taking in a copy of the ebay page and the paypal request for a police report, the guy at the desk read it all but said it was an case that the police do not get involved in as it is against me and paypal/ebay. he gave me a slip with his name and pc no. on it.
with this info i rang paypal who made a note and just faxed over the PC's details..
i had to ring paypal twice to make sure that they had made a record of me going to the police station but not getting a police report because they just dont do that.
let me know if you have any questions..It is better to regret something you have done than something you haven't.....0 -
Who delivered the box???
Is the postage cost not related to the weight of the box ???
That way you could see if it was sent out empty or re-packaged later
Or perhaps they are just after a crime referance numberLiving the Dream...............:A
Every little helps0 -
i think thats what they really want. a crime ref number.
also it proves you are genuine. a real scammer/buyer is unlikely to report a crime.
insurance companies do much the same thing re fraud etc.Get some gorm.0 -
Please come back and let us know what Paypal say:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0

Given the heightened security measures in place around the country at the moment, I would have thought that a large amount of powder spilling out of a package would have been pretty high on their to-do list!!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
