Do you think if I whip my hearing aid out I'll get this? :rotfl: Not that I'm likely to make it to Morrisons next Tuesday: would use up more in petrol than it would take to buy my own mince pies ... :rotfl:

Even if you're not technically an OAP, take your Bus Pass - I bet you'll get your free mnce pie!
  • I guess I can hit them with my walking stick to get their attention since my Blue Badge will be in the car?

I was wondering what proof they require. My husband is 61 so has a bus pass, but he's not technically of retirement age yet.

I wouldn't go specially for the freebies, but I suppose if we need shopping anyway on Tuesday we might give it a whirl. Thanks Andrea.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Considering I'm not disabled (Thank God! :)) and my nearsest store is 10 miles away and I dont like mince pies! I wont be going, but enjoy your mince pies everyone who goes! :xmassign:

I'm wondering if they've thought this through carefully enough. There could be chaos in our local store next Tuesday. We have a very good cafe here, used extensively by OAPs like us, so there could be plenty of custom for this offer. BUT, the store is also opposite the local Bingo Hall, so there could be a stampede from across the road. I'm surprised they've not limited it to those who can produce a shopping receipt over a certain value.

They do this every year I think in the run up to Christmas, so hopefully they should have it organised to cope with the demand.

I don't normally look a gift horse in the mouth but I am wondering ... am I the only disabled person on here who finds the Morrison offer a bit patronising? Call me a killjoy but I'd far rather they (and other supermarkets) spent such money on staff who would ensure our every-day lives were made easier, such as making sure our disabled parking places were not abused.

I think it may be a bit patronising - it's the stereotype again, the one that assumes we're all poor and needy and would fall over ourselves just for a free mince pie and drink (of what?) And of course, if you make an effort to go to Morrison's if you don't normally go there, you're going to spend money, aren't you?

Mention of taking your bus-pass to prove your age - well, I haven't got one, so I can't. Now I'm recovering from the surgery last Friday I have to seriously get back to losing weight - overweight predisposes to a return of the condition that needed the surgery - so I won't be going out of my way to look for a free mince-pie.

The close connection of a senior citizen and a person with a disability is embarassingly too close for my sensitivity. Add a drop of brandy in to the scenario and one could end up with an o.a.p. off his supermarket trolley.:j
