What can I do with 800 free minutes?

I'm not entirely sure this is the right place to post this, so those with the powers feel free to move it but by saving money you're making money so I thought the people on here might have some good ideas....

I have a contract phone and my free minutes keep rolling over, I now have 800 minutes. The minutes can be used to phone any network at any time including 0845, 0870 etc.

My thoughts were that I could get a premium rate number of my own (0870?) and call it for 800 minutes, I'd then be paying myself to ring me! Not sure how to go about that, I recall seeing something about it on here but cannot find the thread now.

Any other ideas gratefully received, thanks in advance.

How about using them to enter competitions that require telephone entry?
This way you might get something nice in return! If you go to the Loquax website and into to the forums you will find posts listing telephone entry competitions. Some of these are 090 numbers, so probably wouldn't come into your free minutes. Perhaps worth a look anyway.

Perhaps phone 'Who wants to be a Millionaire' a few times!
There are always competitions on the TV and that's a good way to use up free minutes.
I hope when you're getting near the end of your contract that you downgrade and that way pay less each month!

I intend to, in fact using Martin's tips my plan is to get the latest snazzy phone (free of course) and pay less a month for the line rental. My contract expires in two weeks so it's perfect timing really.

Use your mobile instead of your house phone, that way you can save money on normal calls (or if you have a daughter lend the sim to her, she'll use them up!) hehe
I remember when this was just a little website! :money:

I'm going to move this over to the phones board as I think you will get more replies from there and I'm sure someone on there will have lots of advice on the premium rate tip. :)

  • If you're on Tmobile or O2, why not use the minutes to phone abroad using Simply Phone? Or stand outside a newsagents that sells international calling cards and rent your phone out to people wanting to do the same!
...and then the window licker said to me...

Buying an 0870 number would net you around £32 at 4p per minute, not a bad guaranteed return. You could assign the 0870 to 1899's 0207 number, and if you have a teenage daughter get her to use it up (use it to call landlines and it'll just cost 3p per call), should only take a couple of weeks lol.
