Comodo Firewall

My Comodo firewall automatically updated over the weekend.

All seemed OK, but I had ticked the Defense+ option, which has turned out to be really annoying, and appears to slow my elderly PC.

I thought I would disable the Defense+ but cannot access Comodo at all via the desktop icon or the start/program route, but I can through the Taskbar icon.

I uninstalled/reinstalled, but it's still the same.

Not a huge problem, but interested to know, has this happened to anyone else?

As an aside,I've not updated to the latest versions of Adaware or Spybot because they did initially have a few bugs.

Are they now sorted?

  • I use all 3 and have had no prob's with any. Defense+ starts in a learning mode and once it has learned the way your machine works it becomes less intrusive. It doesn't use a great deal of resources so shouldn't have any noticeable affect on comp. AdAware and Spybot ok. Update so you are properly protected.

    Cheers Shazmar,

Just reinstalled after uninstalling, running Registry Mechanic, searching/deleting any Comodo.
I still cannot use the desktop shortcut or the program menu to access Comodo.

Just to clarify, AdAware and Spybot are both up to date, just not using the latest versions.

FWIW it is the same on mine (Vista 32bit)

Perhaps those shortcuts simply run the prog, which always starts minimised in the tray.
  • If it is running in the taskbar, then I don't think clicking on the icon will have an effect, because it is already running, so just use the taskbar. I ditched it pretty quickly, the defense thing is way OTT, and the firewall stopped basic things working (traceroute etc).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

I too had a problem with the update of 24 November - it downloaded the file, ran the install, rebooted, and then the PC bluescreened. A further reboot produced the same result.

I ended up booting into safe mode and restoring to the previous day's setup. I am running XP SP2.

Do the other users think that any extra protection or function is to be gained by the update?

I take your point, also albertross, but for example I can open AVG from any location.
With Defense+ turned off it is more bearable.

Normally I'm only here in the evening so can't really compare but I'm on holiday at the mo and have been researching various things and although good BB speed, PC itself has seemed sluggish with 90%+cpu at times.
(pc is 1.3ghz 768RAM XP Home)

If it doesn't improve I'm going back to the previous version.
Hope this is not another advance backwards.

I use the full Comodo Suite and also updated over the weekend, no probs whatsoever. In fact the PC (XP-SP2) seems to be slightly quicker.
  • Hi,

oh, gosh, I've downloaded the latest Comodo this morning, but not installed yet, should I wait a bit?
