Old style christmas hamper challenge

Hiya,

Apologies to the moderators if this has already been done. I know on the christmas boards there's a really cool hampers thread going, and I wondered if anyone would like to join me in an old-style version as a challenge? It might be more motivating!

We could share recipes for what we've put in the food and drink hampers, and take photos of our beautifully wrapped offerings;). Maybe post what you're planning on putting in the hampers, and then tick it off when done...

DH and I are trying to have a cash neutral Christmas, so this will really help us on our way...:D

So far my hampers are going to contain (all home-made if I can):

[strike]Green tomato chutney[/strike]
Apple cheese ( thanks penelopepenguin for recipe)
Orange chocolate sauce
rosemary and garlic olive oil
mulled wine
some kind of home-made chocolate/sweetie:confused:

Wanna play?

Weezl

    Hi weezl,

I've moved your thread over to the Christmas and Celebrations board as that board was created last year specifically to cover all things relating to Christmas to keep all the threads in one place. So that really is the best place to post about hampers, food ones or otherwise.

If you look at this current thread it should give you some more ideas for food gifts: Ideas for Make-Ahead Food Gifts and if you have a look through the Christmas board you'll a lot more.

Good luck with your hamper. :)

This is what we are hoping to do for many of our friends, this thread should help focus me into what I want to do for each person couple and maybe I can get a few ideas.

My main thought is HM biscuits both sweet and savory and possibly HM sweets.

:rotfl:No, that's exactly what I said when a pal on the OS board linked me to the recipe! It's a bit like lemon curd, but apple and cinnamon flavour, does that help? It's yummy!

The recipe is on the radio 4 website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/food/recipe47.shtml
but ignore the title, I think it's a typo!

Welcome Bailey'sbabe and poohzee, I hope you'll post your progress, I wanna see photos...;)

  • can i join please? this year i'm going to do hampers with homemade pickles, lemon curd, sweets, biscuits and cakemix in a jar etc. The only person who isn't getting one is my mum as i did a lovely hamper for her last year with her favourite smellies etc and she just went "oh" and put it down, didn't even look at it

:THoorah, Yes definately, please join us, the more the merrier. I'd press your thanks button, but they've disappeared for me today!

Sometimes I think home-made type gifts do seem to go down like a lead-balloon. I guess it depends on the person, but with some family members who, I think, feel a wee bit unsure about their own gift ideas ( a book voucher, for example) and maybe your thoughtful, considerate gift can make them feel a bit squirmy about their own. But that might just be my family!:rotfl:

I equate being loved with the amount of thought or effort that goes in. If people feel loved by how much others spend, then it's a toughy.

Maybe we should make labels so they know: 'It took me a day's labour to make this for you'- oops no I think I've gone too far!!!:p

Thanks all for joining in, my update:

12 jars green tomato chutney, done and bottled
10 jars apple cheese, done and bottled (but I need to padlock it, DH licked the saucepan out, and is looking longingly at the jars.)
Next step, garlic oil. going to surf to find some pretty oil bottles...

    I'm going to play :j :j

Although I have only got one friend who will appreicate this.

So, she is going to get all my homemade goodies - I know she will appreciate them :D:D:D

If people could post ideas of things to make for the hamper it'd be much appreciated by me :)
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
