What's the deal?
Microsoft is now offering university students the chance to buy the most up to date Microsoft Office suite for £38.95. Considering the suite usually retails at around £600, this ain't bad. Also, if you only want a one-year license, you can get it for £12.95.
Do I qualify?
To qualify for this deal, you need to fit 2 criteria:
You can get the discounted download from Microsoft's special promotion website, The Ultimate Steal. Simply choose whether you want the full perpetual license (you'll be able to use it indefinitely and upgrade to any newer versions cheaper) or just the one-year version (which will be totally restricted after a year), then fill in the forms as you would for any other online purchase.
What's included?
Microsoft isn't skimping on the package you get for the cash. It's the top of the range 'ultimate' edition, including:
It's a full retail license, rather than an academic one, entitling you to install it on one PC only. There's no option for Mac users, as the Mac version of Office 2007 isn't out yet.
Consider avoiding Microsoft; there's free MoneySaving alternatives...
Whilst £38.95 is undoubtedly a great price, it's possible to get an unbranded office suite with similar functionality for the even better price of absolutely nothing!
OpenOffice is an open-source project which includes equivalents of most of the programs above, and will even open many Microsoft documents. Find it in the Free Office Software article. Free virus & firewall protection is also available from the Kit Out Your PC For Free article.

I would hope you are able to transfer your registered email address so that later re-installations / correspondence etc is possible when you are no longer at Uni?

So I went to the web site above and wasnt quite convinced that it was a Microsoft website. So i looked up the Registrant of the domain name and it doesnt appear to be registered to Microsoft, but someone from New York.
I would post the details of my findings but i'm not sure im allowed. I just wanted to point out that this may not be legit. Im not saying it isn't, but would be useful to all if it can be confirmed as genuine.0 -
It's genuine there is the same offer to american students at the .com address. Whois isn't everything it is made up to be.
If you look on the site it directs you to the microsoft url which tells you about the offer. Just lucky I get this all free through the uni anyway

If it is I'll definitely go for it! It does seem to be a bit too good to be true though, and you know what they say about that.
Is it open to Open University students? I have the email address.
Thanks,
