Sell Euros

I know Martin's got a calculator where to get the best deal for foreign currency.

What about selling Euros for GBP?

Where do you get the most GBP for your Euros?

Thanks.

I know that it is probably more advisable to keep it for future use, but I really need the GBP.

Are exchange rates at bank usually better than what you get at the post office?

:rotfl: No your bank does not give you commission free foreign exchange.:rotfl:

It gives you foreign exchange with no overt commission, I grant you, but when I last checked a month or so back most banks (and the Post Office) were loading the interbank exchange rate on buy back by about 8% (yes that's 8% - or about 13 or 14% on what you originally paid for it). That's a commission, even if it isn't called that.

And raw exchange rates are not available to the average consumer. So rates at the bank, in most cases, are likely to be the best you will get, legally.

It doesnt matter what they call it. Or what you call it.

It may not matter what you call it* but there are quite a few legal ways for the average consumer to get nearer to the 'raw' rate than using a bank.

*though I'd argue that it does matter, given the number of posters here and on other boards who assume no commission = no charge of any sort
  • The local exchange i use gives me 3 to points better rate than any bank or post office and is commision free etc, not sure they have a web site but the phone number is 01308 420542 and they have out of hours number 07800641007 , i will see if they have a site and fost later
