More Conservative policy on housing revealed

David Cameron has already outlined his stance on the plight of FTBs - shared equity/ownership schemes are the way to go. Not a good start.

Now they're about to propose that council tenants should receive a cash sum worth 10% of the value of the home they rent.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article2381625.ece
The payments - funded by the taxpayer and worth up to 10 per cent of the value of their rented homes - would be limited to well-behaved tenants who have held their tenancy for at least five years.

The proposals would give tenants a stake in the rising value of their homes and help to encourage them to keep a good record of rent payments and maintenance.
And finally, a real kick in the balls for MSEs resident bears from Shadow Chancellor George Osborne:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/guest_contributors/article2373661.ece
"This summer we have seen again just how interconnected our world economy has become, as mortgage defaults in America have sent shock waves through financial markets in London. It is a reminder of just how important economic stability is. That is why the Conservative priority is to put stability first and keep interest rates low."
Could this mean the 'independent' BOE is no more should Cameron win? Osborne should be asked to explain how he wishes to achieve this (low rates) whilst controlling inflation.

Seem like these muppets are no better than New Labour - short term gain and long term pain

"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

It won't happen. It's in the same category as the frog marching drunks to the cash machine.
  • this used to happen in the 1990s.i know some people who got 15000 pounds.they did not talk about it much as they felt a bit guilty because most of their friends had to work hard, save, and go without to get a deposit for a property.

Im all for social housing but this is a complete !!!!take. Not only would the working masses have to subsidise the housing in the first place, but we pay people for living in them, even though they already get subsidised rent?

A 2 bed flat in my old authority ( tower hamlets) was about 70-80 pw, on the open market even renting in the same block, youd be looking at 250pw ish ( i never saw a 2 bed flat for much less than 1k in that area pcm)

Even better, residents are rewarded for staying in council property longer than maybe they would need to- restricting the supply further for those in dire need ( families in B&B accomodation for example)

One of the worst ideas Ive ever heard, and thats saying something after what RTB has done to the housing market.

What woud happen in a recession, sorry mrs smith, your council flat is worth less now, so Ilandrev is going to claw back the 7k we already gave you. NOt likely.

I might have been tempted to vote tory before, but there is no chance in hell I would now. Coming out with statements like this, make them look worse not better, despite the gradiose announcements, it just shows amaturish thinking.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • IMHO we live in a civilised society where theoretically one has a right to have a roof over their head.

I wasn't aware that it is everyone's right to own property

None of this will hapen and just goes to show what a load of crap Tory policies are, they're grasping at straws! No one's going to vote for a clueless bunch of ex- Public school boys, even if the alternatives not much better!.....and this from an ex Tory voter.

At one point they looked interesting as a party, I thought they might come up with some novel solutions to problems, but they're just as bad as the present lot.

Spot on. I did have some hope that the Conservatives would become worthy opposition, but Cameron has emerged at a complete ponce and quite unlikeable, with the party as a whole is completely devoid of ideas. Quite depressing :(
