I've just had a letter through from GE Money, saying that the "Food and Fuel" EveryDay card will be discontinued from November 14th 2007 for all customers.
I'm really disappointed by this, but I got some great use out of it, especially in the early days when it was 3% off everything. Still sad that they are closing it though as I was doing well with just food and fuel cashback.

Anyone know what the next best cashback card is to get now?0

Capital One have a good cashback card - 1% on everything (but paying 4% on everything for the first 3 months!).
Egg Money is also 1% on everything (up to max £200 cashback per annum) and can now be used for spending since the free cashback loophole closed.
I'm sure I read somewhere about another "food & fuel" card paying 2% on such items but I can't remember where. Sorry. If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...0 -
Barclaycard have a 2% on food and fuel cashback card:

Sad to see it go as it earned me quite a bit.
Does anyone know when the next cashback payment is due? I have a bit sitting on it at the moment.
If I recall correctly, they pay it onto the card and you have to spend it on the card, so I won't be cutting it up just yet.Whilst my posts do not constitute financial advice, I am always, without fail, 100% right!0 -

The letter says that if there is a credit balance on your account (i.e. cashback) they will send you a cheque.. however, you can still use the card until mid-November.

I also have this card and I rang them up thinking I had done something wrong having received the same letter this morning.
What annoys me is that they are simply closing the account. Let's face it this must be due to the paying out of the 3% so instead of throeing everyong away why do they not simply abolish the 3% or transfer people to their alternative card which does not pay 3%.
No instead I can "apply" for their other card but have to lower may credit score by having another "credit search" done for a card under the same organisation that knows my payment history.
If they simply transferred people seamlessly then the customer can decide if to go elsewhere and then the credit search would be of their own choice.
I spoke to a customer manager about this and he has promised to get back to me when he has spoken to the marketing department.
If you look on the back of the letter there is a Questions and Answers digetst. One question seems to be missing.....
"Why are we doing this"?

I think if you owe them money - as a kind gesture and a way of compensatng their customers they should "write it off"
I can dream!0 -

I agree, this does seem very odd. You'd think they would want to try and retain customers. Perhaps the T&C's prevent them from simply abolishing the cashback?Stompa0
