baskets

I have a best friend who has more money than I do, and he would get angry if I spent a lot on him for Christmas. So I want to make a basket with a belt buckle, T shirt, CD, manicure set (his hands are always nice), turtle dove (symbol for friendship) and any other small gift I can find. I would love to do one around true life murder mysteries for my daughter in law and something for my son, but where can I find baskets? I could line them with shower curtain material, and cover them with flourist celophane. But can't find baskets. No credit card so can't use net, and can only travel in Scotland.

Do you have Wilkinsons up there? That's where i got all mine last year. Charity shops are always worth checking on passing, especially as you have a few months to go yet :D Florists sometimes have them too, or places that sell wrapping paper and whatnot.

... alternatively, why not use something that isn't a basket in the strictest sense? ie small metal/plastic storage containers, gift boxes etc.
  • I live in Inverness, which is a city but doesn't have any Wilkinsons. We have plenty of charity shops and I will check those tomorrow. Will also check the florists. I might be able to find a more appropiate container with it being so many months to Christmas. Thanks.

Worth asking at any local churches too, Quite often people donate the old baskets they get with flowers in to church sales etc.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

If you have a branch of Tesco nearby check out their home department. Our local store has lined baskets-two for £3 something.
  • Hi there,
I made gift baskets last xmas and had a similer hunt. In the end I tracked them down in a party shop, you know the kind that sell balloons and badges ect. Their wholesale bit had loads of them, because I was making a few they sold them to me at wholesale prices. I also found another supplier by asking my local green grocers who made fruit and veg baskets at xmas. I was basically asking any of our local shops, florists should also know as they make up gift baskets.

I hope this helps and good luck
  • Hello, the threads about making gift baskets were moved onto the *Special Occasions* board.

I'll go and see if I can find a link.............

Where do you get your baskets from?

And this is one of my favourite ever threads - Finished baskets.
