Aldi's Laptop - thoughts please!

Hi:
http://www.aldi.co.uk/
Aldi's have laptops again on Thursday and I wonder if anyone can tell me whether this is a good price for what you get.
I am having more and more problems with my existing laptop which was about £1500.00 5 years ago. It was really high spec at the time and so is very quick at most of the things it does and is Dell so I have always been really happy with build quality etc. Just wondering whether I would be better getting one of these instead or paying someone £60.00  plus parts to try and find what is wrong with mine? (And I am strugging to get it to charge too as the adapter at the back seems to have become "loose" with age).
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Not really a recommendation but a link to another thread somewhat related to your question.0

I was considering buying a lappy from them a few months ago, but decided against it after reading a number of threads regarding poor customer service.0

I've had two medion pc's and never had any problems with them, in fact for the money I cant fault either of them, therefore I had no need to contact their custom service dept, however on the odd occasion when ive bought electrical items from aldi as soon as they went wrong I took them back and they exchanged them no questions asked.
Just my two penne'th
all the best

Seems like a good offer £459 for a laptop with decent spec.
The only caution I would add is that with a shared memory for graphics it's not an ideal laptop if you are a gamer.0 -
Does anyone know what the battery life is like on the Medion Laptops?0
-
Just phoned Medion, they seem to have no idea about the number of cells in the battery, something that is of great concern.
But he said battery life of around 2 hours when being used fully, not very accurate information from them I must say. I would prefer information in the format of W/hr.0 -

Why? That's about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. The amount of power being used can vary widely depending on what mode you run the HDD in, how bright you have the screen, whether you have Wifi on and in what mode, whether there's any USB/PCMCIA cards being used, the power scheme being used and even down to how many programs and processes you have running in the background.
People want to know how long it'll last. How many cells it has is irrelevent and the W/hr figure is irrelevent as all they'll do is give you a figure of what the battery can supply but no indication of what rate the laptop is using it at.
"You'll get about 2hrs out of it" is far more useful than being told it has 9 cells that can provide 100Wh which may sound good but then finding out the laptop uses power at such a rate that the battery only lasts 60 minutes which I can guarantee will be at the time you needed it to last a lot longer.0 -
I spent time waiting on the line to get that information and whatever your opinions are on the cells remains questionable.
....and you wonder why people are afraid to sign up and post to these forums.0 -
We have had two Medion PCs, 2 because the first one stopped working after 2 months and then when eventually Medion finally arrived to collect it "for repair" when they sent it back it still didn't work and it was obviously someone elses 'cause ours had a small dent on the back- this "new" one had the connectors totally mashed so that we couldn't plug the thing in!!!
Oh well eventually after lots of hassle phone calls, e-mails etc. we were "provided with a new PC" which again turned out to be an "previously owned pc" so we eventually "returned" the PC to Toys R Us. We eventually got a refund from Toys R Us who wouldn't originally do a refund as they said Medion refused to refund them (Toys R Us).
Ha Ho and the end result of this story is...... wouldn't have another Medion PC, Laptop, SatNav or otherwise even if I was given it for free! Toys R Us Stockport also told us they are no longer dealing with Medion due to the lack of Customer Service :rotfl:Panda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0 -
i've had a medion desktop since january and so far so good, looks a tad ugly but otherwise had no probs that i can blame medion fordon't get mad do yoga0
