why would you want / trust someone else to look after your data? Assuming you haven't got one get a DVD writer for £20 (decent lite on) some blank dvd's for next to nothing and do it all in about 10 minutes without any complications or worries ...?0

This backs up latest updates to files.
This does it automatically
If I need to go to my accounts files then I will find the latest backups there.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Excellent rip-off by PC-World, why would you pay for anything like this just sign up for Googlemail and you then get 2gb for free. Photos and Files can be uploaded.Debt Free Wannabee - Updated 13/08/2007

This thread talks about online storage too! and Superscraper - post 5 - says that he 'encrypt his stuff with truecrypt first before uploading.'

I agree that this isn't really worth it, you can never be sure there wont be a problem with their copy.. it will probably be stored on multiple hard drives but who knows. googlemail is an excellent way of backing up your files, just email the file to yourself and its probably safer than one of these services, I have nearly 3GB with googlemail. Or burn to dvd or cd.
I have had enough hard disks die on me to know to keep backups of stuff you don't want to loose, I have invested in a USB external hard disk, I keep one copy of things on my internal drive, one copy on the external drive and the most important stuff like my encrypted list of passwords to everything, my bookmarks (thousands of them collected over the years, all highly organised) and a few other bits also get copied onto a USB key drive.0 -

I have two HD - not sure if the 'slave' one gets affected if my PC gets a virus/trojan or crashes beyond repair.
I only have a CD burner at the moment and it would take a lot of CDs to back up. I do keep important papers/letters etc on a 2GB USB key drive too.
I'm not very organised though
I think if it's encryped and it's stuff like photo's and not too personal then then online storage could be a good idea... all down to trusting the site you use though!Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
Be VERY careful with this "free" offer which I had through buying a laptop recently.
It is not the most user friendly product in the world. I ended up (in error) backing up my entire laptop C drive and E drive (which in itself is a back up of my desktop PC).
It caused me to breach the free 1 GB limit - despite the fact that I got a webpage pop up at 1GB with three options - (continue to 50GB limit @4.99pm, manage my account or cancel account) and opted for the middle one I discovered that I'd automatically been added to the £4.99 monthly option. Once you hit this tariff there is no way to reverse back to free 1GB - the only option is to cancel the account.
Nothing short of scandalous and I'm still waiting for responses to emails, failing which I'll be writing to PC world.
They have no right to take £4.99 from me without me PROACTIVELY agreeing to them doing so.0
