6 Year Timeline

Options
Hi Martin, can you tell me where the 6 year deadline came from regarding claiming back bank charges? Is it laid down in law? Is it a statuatory rule that all debts can be claimed back only as far as 6 years? :j

Ive heard than the Inland Revenue can go back 30 years in some instances regarding capital gains tax:eek:

Ive got all my bank statements dating back 20 years and I'd like to claim back several thousand pounds from one of the banks that I banked with in the 1990's.

The charges amount to thousands of pounds, will a claim be simply rejected because its over 6 years old?

Thanks in advance :T

Unfortunately, in this case, its only 6 years

It's the Statute of Limitations Act 1980.

In fact as you have all your statements you are half way there because part of the problem of claiming back more than 6 years is actually getting the information from the banks.
