Sainsbury's BBQ

Options
Reduced from an original price of £90 Sainsburys are selling a great gas BBQ for £45. It also has a side seperate single gas burner. My mum bought one last week thinking it was a bargain as it had been reduced to £60 now they are only £45.

If you only want disposable ones, you could do worse than to get them for £1 each...

Whilst this does have the side gas burner and has a large hinged domed lid, it does look and feel very cheap and nasty. It is all metal, and rather thin metal at that, and when I played with the assembled one in store, it did bend and flex very easily. Rather "wobbly" overall - chrome plated steel grill rack etc., and steel nuts & bolts.

HOWEVER, next to it was a solid hardwood trolley style one with brass fittings that looked really stylish and well made. And it is !

It doesn't have a side burner (but if I want one I can get one of these separately) and so I get 2 work surfaces instead of 1, nor does it have a domed lid (and I am already making my own variation to fit this one so that I can cook "enclosed") BUT it does have very robust CAST IRON insides - a griddle and a "solid" hot plate (can fry an egg on this if I need to) - and the griddle is suspended above a metal rack that takes lava rocks (included) that get hot and glow like real coals. Also the entire bottom is a removable fat drip tray that just pulls out the front - instructions suggest putting a thin layer of sand or cat-litter in before use.

It also has a very high heat output - over 11kW - whereas the other one is only 7.6kW and that includes the gas ring.

The best news is that this barbecue is CHEAPER (really doesn't look like it should be) Was £75 - now only £37.50

Totally over the moon with it !!!

Even matches the hardwood table, chairs and loungers we got last year in a closing down sale.

It seems to be made by a company called Landmann - looks like they make half decent BBQ's - model no. 004572

Theres a very similar one here for £107.99.... (4th/5th item down)

...though model 804572 it actually has 004572 in description. IMHO Sainsburys one looks better

:T Thanks to Quoia, O.P. and my mate Milly for finding the manufacturer

Still overpriced at £44 (in my local). Thin metal means rust by end of summer and holes by beginning of next. The heat of the fire will take care of the lovely green colour by day one etc. If you have room in your garden consider building one very cheaply out of bricks. It will last for years and years.

The wooden flatbed trolley style one is indeed made by Landmann and looks almost identical to the link provided - difference is that the Sainsbury's one has TWO serving/work areas - the slatted shelf seen to the left of the barbecue is replicated on the righthand side.

These are on SPECIAL OFFER at Morrisons - save £10 - just £89.99 :rotfl:

    is 11kw output good?

I bought a BBQ at the back end of last year from Woolies....it was reduced from £80 to about £13 - it sucks (should try vacuuming with it I reckon), doesn't get hot enough with the lid up, burns every thing to a cinder with the lid down.

Therefore I'll be very careful that my next BBQ purchase has anough clout to actually barbeque with the lid up!

Also, with the Woolies one, the cooking meat fat drops onto a metal plate below which instantly turns into a flame which carbonises the meat....I'm expecting that lava rock avoids this?

As Mr Warren say bricks, sheet of metal and a grill stick come charcoal on the sheet and light it will remain hot for hours and the food tastes better IMO ohh and they cost less than a gass bbq, dont forget you still need to buy a gas bottle.

Has any one the Sainsbury's name/code for this BBQ? I'd rather ring a few branches then drive about on the off chance (I've already tried one....failed).

Also, does anyone know which is the largest Sainsburys store in outer London on the north side? (or South Herts)
