I am currently running Windows 98se which is restricting my choices I guess. I used to run Zone Alarm firewall but they stopped supporting 98 so I changed back to Sygate (which I wasnt too keen on). Now its started trying to block aloowed programmes or not starting up when I turn on - with broadband thats not a good idea...so I was thinking of changing again.
I also run AVG free antivirus but thier firewall is XP up so thats not an option either which is a shame
So does anyone have any recommendations on a new firewall for me?

I have installed Kerio firewall on both my XP lappy and the old W98 one. It seems to work fine.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

if you have a router, software firewalls aren't that important.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks for your replies......
Donnie - not an option as ZA doesnt support 98 anymore
Quasar - is Kerio compatable with AVG these days? I remember trying it a few years back & it seemed to clash with AVG....
Albertross - sorry for being dumb but whats a router? - surely I would know if I had one?I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -

with broadband you either have an adsl modem (often usb, sometimes ethernet), or a cable modem (for BB via cable phones), or a router (wired or wireless). Routers use NAT which hides your internal network from the outside world, and gives you added protection from hackers in the process, they also allow you to share your internet amongst several PC's.
The old versions of ZA still work as they always did on 98.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
You can download and install the 6.1.744.1 version from the link that Albertross has supplied.0

It will still work as it always did, you just won't get any bug fixes, ditto w98.
If you want some peace of mind..these block inbound hack attempt before they get to the PC
