We went to London last November and didnt really that much so its a good idea to have the weekend planned. I would definatly recommend the London Eye and the Thames River cruise, the cruise shows you lots of sites that you cant always see on foot, also the London Bus Tour is good. In Nov we also did the Jack The Ripper Tour which was brilliant and really cheap, maybe do that on the Friday night if its something your into.:o The best hotel we have stayed at is The big hotel right by Tower Bridge, might Thistle Tower. I wouldnt know about shows as hubby hates musicals !

I usually stay at The Hoxton Hotel which I really love but the hotel you have picked is more central.

I would definitely recommend the London Eye - have been on it twice now, once during the day and once in the evening. Also agree with Mizz Pink about the river cruise.

If you want tickets for a show the ticket place in Leicester Square is good. The one right in the middle not the others that look like shops.

Not knowing your age or your likes it is difficult to say what are the best places to see but I like the following:-

Covent Garden - I never get bored of wandering round. There is a market and some interesting shops. There are almost always street entertainers there and there always seems to be a good atmosphere.

Spitalfields Market - again some interesting shops and a market (not sure if the market is there all week or only weekends). Also quite a few places to eat.

Borough Market is good - admittedly it is mainly fruit and veg but around the area are some shops. Also you can get a lot of tasters from the market as well as some good food that you pay for. Again I am not totally sure when the market is on. I know it is Saturdays and I think it may be a weekday as well. It gets packed so if you go there it is best to go fairly early in the morning.

Camden Lock - not as good as it used to be but I quite enjoy strolling round the shops and stalls. Quite a few places to eat as well.

If you like curry Brick Lane is a good place. Again it is not as good as it used to be years ago and the prices have gone up but on the whole you can get a pretty cheap curry there although it can be difficult deciding which curry house to go to with so many to choose from.

The South Bank - I love walking along there. There is the Tate Gallery which is well worth a visit. Also The Globe Theatre - I did the tour earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. You could also think about seeing a play here. There are lots of restaurants along the South Bank and the Oxo Tower which you can go up.

Hopefully it will be nice and sunny in July and a lot of the London parks are nice to stroll in and get a coffee. Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, St. James Park, Regents Park.

Do you like museums? The Natural History museum is good as is the Victoria & Albert. I love the British museum (the egyptian section is my favourite). There is also the Science museum and the Museum of London.

Hope this is of some use to you. If I think of anywhere else I will post again.

My wife and 3 kids spent a great weekend in London a couple of months back. One thing to remember is getting about, London's a BIG place.

My suggestion is to go to the nearest rail/tube station and ask at the 'Information' office for the cheapest tickets for the underground.

I paid £36 for a family of 5 for unlimited tube & bus travel at any time over the weekend. (If I remember correctly the ticket price worked out about £5 per adult per day.)

We certainly covered some miles that weekend.

    Enjoy your weekend.

Unlimited tube ticket is a good idea i agree, its about £7 per day. We went to Brick Lane for a curry and were very disappointed, obviously we only went to 1 restaurant so maybe we didnt pick the best although we picked the busiest.

Don't forget that entry to museums is free (though they like you ot make a donation if possible). I'd recommend the British Museum just because it's an amazing space :) The Tate Modern is also a nice place to visit and the restaurant has great views!

I've just been checking out the website for Jamie Oliver's fifteen restaurant too and it turns out they have some lovely pasta options for less than £10 in the trattatoria. You have to book ahead though. Don't know if it's good or not but would be interesting to try.

A picnic in Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens can also be a really nice thing to do on a good day.

And allow some wandering about time too :)

I have posted on the 'FREE or CHEAP Hotels from Easyjethotels.com' thread details of how you can stay at the Guoman Tower hotel (as mentioned by Mizz_Pink) for absolutely nothing.
