Moneysaving Soap etc

Hi, does anyone have any tips for moneysaving/environmentally friendly soap, shampoo/conditioner etc. (Apologies if this has been done before) I've seen the thread about the laundry gloop and was wondering if there was something similar for skin and hair. I have changed from obsessively washing my hair every day whether it needed it or not, to only every 3 days. (Wear my hair down 1st day, then up in different styles for next 2 days) This has made a MASSIVE difference in the amount of shampoo I'd been buying. (Also I watched a program on TV which was doing scientific experiments on different things and one part was about shampoo- and how you don't have to 'shampoo twice' - it works just fine the first time (repeat if desired and all that)). I would like to see if I could make some 'old' fashioned' soap/shower gel/shampoo if anyone's got any ideas?
Many Thanks in advance.

I run a razor blade over my head every Friday night and a damp cloth the rest of the week. Save a fortune of shampoo, conditioner, wax. Although this moneysaving tip may be a tad extreme for even our monst dedicated Ol'Stylers.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

The links are great - thanks, The shampoo & conditioners look very easy, the soap looks a bit more daunting but I may just have a go!0

Awww - do ya look like a teddy bear MATH ? All the blokes I used to work with who did that used to. Mr TM wants a No.1 all over when he loses more hair, but he wouldn't suit it. Also, I've just spent the last 5 years growing my lucious locks AND finding a hairdresser who can cope with them, so wouldn't suit me.
Seriously though, I've used Aveda shampoo for years now and if I use anything else, it doesn't compare. When I had short hair, I used to wash it every day (because of styling products as much as anything else) and a 1 L bottle lasted 18 months because you use so little. It doesn't contain any nasties but doesn't lather like most commercial shampoos, which takes getting used to. The lather is there to make you think it's getting your hair clean when in fact most of it is just for show. Value for money as well as decent shampoo : A+ I've recommended it to others on here, who agree too.0 -
This is where Lush actually becomes a money saver rather than a luxury. I wash my hair every three days too. I bought a Lush Reincarnate solid shampoo bar 6 months ago and still have some left.
At £2.60 for a 100g gram this has to be one of the best bargains I have found.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Does anyone remember a TV programme called Bodymatters from the '80s? They had this experiment where a woman didn't wash her hair for 7 weeks. She said it really smelt at first but then after 7 weeks she had really healthy hair.
I've often wondered if there was an alternative to the usual shampoos. I'll have a look out for Aveda and also the lush shampoo bars. Can they be bought at Superdrug etc..?0 -
They do lather a bit but not as much as a traditional shampoo, unfortunately they can only be bought from Lush, my nearest shop is 20 miles away
However they can be ordered online from the Lush websiteWhich is where my credit card takes a bashing every month.
I follow the shampoo with the American Cream conditioner and I have never had such soft silky hair before. My hair is down to my waist and I have real problems with greasy roots and dry ends but this stuff sorts it out a treat.

Just had a look and I think I'll get one. They have a shop near me too. :j Looking at the bars has brought back memories! When I was a teenager I used to order from a company called Cosmetics to Go. It was a mail order company and the soap and stuff looked good enough to eat. Does anyone by any chance know if they have a website? I've just looked on google but nothing.0
